More sealant ....wouldn't it be lovely if he said "I've got you a little surprise!".... yeh - it'd most likely be something like a pot of Swarfega

The new toy is the pasta maker, a Kenwood accessory that allows you to make not only flat pasta but also fancy shapes. Guess what we're eating this weekend?

      • Good morning all.
It's just finished raining here and looks a little brighter.
No plans for the day so it might be domestics.
        Enjoy your new toy Snoop.
Have a good day all and stay safe.

          • Morning, another raw day out there, wind has got up a bit and the sky looks full of snow, whilst on a walk yesterday we noticed the trees are starting to bud, I doubt they will be opening just yet though. Morning chores are now do the ashes and light the fire, feed the birds then break the ice on the pond, I cannot remember a colder winter up here in almost 18 years, tried to pull a Leek up and it was frozen solid in the ground.

Bren's recipe is for pressing through a die, so quite dry. Not suitable for rolling out with a rolling pin or putting through a roller. Time for a little surprise in an online shop for yourself? I see there are a few suppliers of semola rimacinata in France... It's slightly yellow in colour and makes beautiful pasta. If you use home-produced eggs, you'll get a lovely yellow. I use half semola, half 00 flour at the moment for rolled pasta. Bet the specialist flour suppliers in France will have loads of lovely pasta flours, 00, wholemeal durum wheat... No good for the diet mind. That said, 125 g of rimacinata, 125 g of 00 flour and three medium eggs did pasta for ravioli for three and trenette for two. So could be worse.

              • Hello all,

i was quite excited last night, when i went to bed, there was the startings of a good hard frost. something that would really help firm the ground up a bit... but no. this morning was full of rain, rain and more rain.

it has stopped now mind, so hopefully it will dry out a little bit... fingers crossed.

                • All this talk of fresh pasta is making me want some. I have got a basic pasta roller lurking somewhere but I haven't used it for a couple of years. I think 00 flour is going on my next shopping list. My husbands youngest brother is 79 tomorrow so I'm going to make a cake next and drop his present (an electric razor) and cake off with his shopping tomorrow.

Glad your pasta maker arrived and you got to play with it Snoop.

My Kenwood pasta maker is called an extruder so it doesn’t make lasagna sheets, but I have seen freestanding metal ones for sale so I might get one of those. I think it could be used for rolling out crackers.
Not ventured far today because of the snow.

It wasn't where it was supposed to be (the Post Office). Mr Snoop will try other possible places on Thursday. Then, I guess, it's time to get back to Amazon and find out what's what. Hope I'm not doomed never to get one...

I have a Kenwood roller accessory. Makes fantastic lasagne sheets. Much easier to use than a hand-cranked job, as you have both hands free to deal with the pasta. I have used it for rolling crackers but found it easier just to roll with a rolling pin. Once you've got lasagne sheets, you can do stuffed pasta, no trouble. It's the success of the roller that has made me keen to try the extruder (I think in the States they call it a pasta shaper).

Just had to grab the hoover and tidy up the living room as we are expecting a high output 10L/min oxygen generator to arrive this morning for OH. He was supposed to come yesterday but the street was impassable with snow.

                              Just having a cuppa now.
