  • My own special chilli con carne with boiled rice followed by a nice yoghurt and some chocolate with hazelnut bits from Lidl

    • Due to my husband overindulging at Supper time yesterday and subsequently being awake half the night with heartburn and acid he is sticking to bland food today.
I've just taken some cod out of the freezer to make a fish pie topped with caper mash. A few carrots and peas.

      • Carrot and lentil soup with a couple slices of sourdough. Some sort of pudding not decided what yet.

        • Lunch: pork chops in a stew with pots, leeks and carrots in a pressure cooker, romanesco on the side. Rice pud maybe for afters.

Supper: calot and mat (a bit like ricotta) pizza.

Two small loaves yesterday (total 370 g of flour between them), not much left...

              • Duck egg Frittata including peas and black kale. That's the last of our own frozen peas.

                  • Tinned salmon with chilli.
                    Tea and bread and butter.
I had no time to make a proper dinner as I was rushing out this evening.

                    • Last night we had bricks!!!
It's a really thin folded and stuffed pancake parcel (Corned beef and egg) which is then fried. Served with French beans.
Live yog and mangoes for pud.

I really like the sound of "bricks". How do you make them?

Tonight smoked cod baked in milk for my husband, lamb steak with mint jelly and gravy for me, potato dauphinoise, carrots and cabbage.

                        • I fancy beans on toast this evening.

I’d also like to know more about these bricks Nicks, I’ve got both eggs and corned beef.

                          • Lunch was a disgrace: veggie burger in a roll with tomato sauce, two dry madalenas (supposedly madeleines but more like fairy cakes with no fruit) with strawberry jam to try to improve them. Would 'it was one of those mornings' do for an excuse?

Supper: pork loin slices in a ras el hanout and crispy crumb coating, more sri racha and honey cabbage. Not sure if I'll get around to doing potatoes. There's home-made bread in the freezer and that might have to be my default.

                            • I buy mine ready made and fill them with whatever I fancy.
Traditionally you add something...in a circle , then crack an egg in the centre , then fold over the edges of the circle and fry on both sides.

                              Here's one recipe...
                              https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/...tunisian-brik/

Might try it myself but it's ever so thin...bit like filo pastry.
Supposed they are a bit like Arabic samosas?

Tonight we're having creamy wild mushrooms and pasta.
                              Bananas and yog for pud.

                              • They sell Brik as street food in Tunisia & Morocco. Take a piece of pastry in one hand, crack an egg intp it with the other hand, scrunch it up and drop it in a vat of hot oil. Delicious!

They also sell them filled with pigeon meat, currants and sugar as a sort of Mince pie.
