  • Mornin n’alln’all

Had a reasonably good night last night ( sorry GF) and awoken feeling a lot brighter.
I’ve always enjoyed looking around Lakeland MH- loads of things you had no idea you ‘needed’

I really need to do a small grory hop this lunchtime…a few things for under the Xmas tree and some bread and butter for the freezer.
A large bakery has set up in the local town and they have a vast choice of baguettes- different flours and seeds etc but also a choic of three ‘normal’ baguettes - high bake, normal bake and a low bake , the latter of which is much softer- rather like a bagel texture and flavour. Much easier eating and makes a nice change from the marvellous crunchy baguettes in that it doesn’t attack your gums , nor leave half its surface flaked all over the table It’ll be much easier for our little granddaughter to get stuck into

I’ll see if I can get large spuds too…just not spotted any large enough. Just one more place to try.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and the weather is kind so at least some gardening/ pottering outside can be achieved.

    • My phone says that the temperature has now dropped to 3°C. There's still a frost.

Thanks for the hot milk earlier mothhawk. I've just been an made myself coffee. I didn't even shiver as I'd grabbed a pair of Mr GF's fleece pyjama bottoms and an oversized hoodie. First up best dressed? Hardly! Most warmly dressed? Maybe. Definitely not an example of sartorial elegance.

The heating is on now so that I'll eventually feel up to braving the shower. At the moment I can't bear even the thought of removing this all-encompassing hoodie.

The postie should be calling between 9.30am and 11.30am to collect a parcel I'm sending to my great nephews for Christmas.

I think I'll bung some braising steak and veg into the slow cooker for today or tomorrow and the freezer when I'm up and about.

Although we have watery sunshine it appears to be making no attempt to melt the frost.

I think a second coffee is now overdue.

      • Good Morning All I was doing a GF this morning - 4.50 wide awake so I made a cup of tea and read till 7.15. I'd put the heating on, so the bathroom was warm for my shower. I didn't dress the tree yesterday as planned, so that's my first job today. It's frosty outside, but sunny. Have a good day

        • Morning

A bit of early morning frost but it cleared by 8-ish.

Talking of showers just now we've having baths while MPots is re-grouts the shower cubical, I'd forgotten how warm a bath makes you feel. Does anyone else still use their bath?

          Enjoy your day

              • Morning all.

Congratulations, Flo. You won him over. Must be around about a year since he was ennobled. Still thinking of you, lottie dolly.

Those baguettes sound good, Nicos. While you're there, Mr Snoop says he'll have one of the soft ones.

Have been out trying to play with a frisbee with Jack. But he wants to play tug of war with it instead. Tug of war is his favourite game, probably because he always wins. Very hard work on the hands.

Not much other news. Weather clearly building up for rain starting tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, more of the usuals on the cards for me. Looking forward to being retired, when every day will feel like a Saturday or Sunday rather than every day feeling like a Monday.

                Have a great day, everyone.

                • Tree dressed and the last of the bulbs planted. I've only just realised that one of the GGs "borrowed" my roll of chicken wire, so Have to think of something that will stop the pesky squirrels digging them up.

                  • Afternoon!…just managed a quick grory hop and ended up in a second hand charity book shop..which has loads of English books1-4€ so not bad at all.
I even got OH a lovely cookery book which he’s said he’d like to unwrap on Xmas morning…looks totally unused!

Bren…I absolutely hate showers I’d much rather have a long soak in a hot tub and use the water to flush the loo, or chuck it out of the window onto the shrubs below. The only time I’ll shower is if it’s a heatwave and I need to cool down quickly…which isn’t often!

Needless to say, we’ve done no more decorating indoors but OH is going to go and pick the holly whilst I have a siesta- then it’ll be nice and dry to put up in the morning

Flo, I use my upturned empty hanging baskets to stop the squirrels, I hope that might help.

Thanks Bramble. I have saved lots of plastic grape containers, so Have put them over the troughs. It will be interesting to see if the squirrel moves them!

I think our bath was last used 2 years ago I much prefer to shower instead, so no soaking Nicos.

Hope you find a way to deter those squirrels Flo.

                            • Good morning

An almost civilised hour I'm happy to say I don't think I've slept too badly, at least 4 hours of solid sleep so far. Hopefully a couple more yet I've just rescued Mr GF's half discarded duvet and, with it now back in it's proper place, he has stopped moaning in his sleep.

I have already slipped my big fleece hoodie on and am sitting up in bed debating the merits of making a mug of coffee or of reading a bit more of my book, which is too gripping for it's own good. Maybe the two are not mutually exclusive
