  • Morning all.

Great news about Hibou, Nicos. She really is a fighter. And a lovely girl, too.

Really chilly out. No surprise there at this time of year, I guess. Rain coming in a few days, but temperatures set to rise a bit, so probably no snow. Mind you, I've really prepared for winter this year. We could be cut off for a few weeks and we'd be all right till Mr Snoop's meds ran out.

I managed to get all the urgent stuff done yesterday. Now onto the less urgent nonsense. Phew! M is coming here for lunch today, so mustn't forget that. But what I really want to do is have a mid-morning nap. Better shake a leg before I just nod off.

    Have a great day, everyone.

Good news about Hibou hopefully those Steroids will give her the boost she needs.

A bit of shopping today and a few items to take to the charity shop, I'll have a look at jigsaws while I'm there.

      Enjoy your day

        • Good morning...... just.

I did get up early but due to lack of sleep last night I did some necessary jobs and have been dozing on and off for a couple of hours.

Very good news about Hibou, Nicos.

I may be being thick, or just overtired, but I don't understand what you mean. Explanation please.

Most of the calls we get on the landline are nuisance calls GF so it being out of order has been golden silence

              • Mornin n’alln’all

Looks like we are in for a calm dry day. ‘Tupperware cloud cover’ from the looks of things. at least the wind and rain has stopped!
Has anyone been affected by the storms?…I see there has been flooding and property damage in parts of the country. Hope most people have avoided it.

A quiet day for me- not feeling too well tbh so I’m just going to be kind to myself. And why not

I’ve just realised I need to get large flat potatoes on my shopping list. Very hard to find large ones tbh- but one of the local shops sells loose potatoes which often turn green so no one wants them…might find a few there. Then I can get started on wreathes for the front doors using bay and rosemary and last year’s dried orange slices.

Enjoy your day peeps…and keep sharing those smiles…I’m hoping I have loads spare later on when we bring Hibou home after her treatment.

I get it now and completely understand. I generally ignore my landline these days and if the missed call number is one I recognise, I will ring back. I keep thinking about cutting it off but as it only costs £3 a month I haven't yet.

                  • Morning, miserable here today. Caught a brief glimpse of the sun earlier but it has gone.
Hope you are feeling better soon Nicos!
Off to the hospital for treatment this afternoon but only for an hour rather than the 3 to 4 hours it used to be. We’ve been told to wear masks. Feel sorry for the poor staff having to wear them all day.
Anyhoo have a great day folks. Looking forward to those smiles when you bring Hibou home Nicos! x

Thought I posted earlier, but evidently not. Did a grory hop early as I was expecting a royal mail delivery 9.30 - 10.30 today. Well it hasn't turned up, and checking the tracking, I see it is still sitting at the South Midlands sorting office, or as they call it now mail centre hub. Better news on two other items, both coming this afternoon. Why do my deliveries always come (or not!) on lovely sunny days when I'd like to be off out somewhere?

Since all the quality butters I favour have succumbed to shrinkflation I bought 600ml double cream to have a go at making some. It was quite fun and I now have 340g butter, and 190ml butter milk to show for it. Well I did, but the buttermilk that I intended to make scones with tasted so sweet and creamy that I drank it. The butter tastes delicious and works out at about £8.70 per kilo, which is only £1 more than the cheap butter I buy for cooking.

                      • Your butter looks good, mothhawk. I used to sometimes make it in the trusty old Kenwood, particularly if I had overstocked on double cream or the supermarket had reduced it. I also sometimes added some rapeseed oil to the solids to make a spreadable butter.

                        • Butter is really expensive here and every now and then the thought of making it crosses my mind. Yours looks fantastic, MH.

Unfortunately I can only get UHT cream here and it's only around 36% fat content. So nothing like as good as proper double cream. I might give it a go, though, see if it works. Thanks for the inspiration (again), MH.

                          • The telephone engineer has been and the phone is now through the wi-fi. He says that there will be no cable lines in 2 years. He looked about 12, but was in fact 20
That butter looks good MH. Since buying my cute butter dish I have been using 200g blocks of butter and it's working out much cheaper.
My middle GG is calling today to pick up the sausage rolls I've made for her. She's still having blood tests since the Methotrexate injection. She actually said "Please don't send me flowers Nanny, but I'd love some sausage rolls"

                            • Really sorry about everything your GG has been through, Flo, but as regards flowers or sausage rolls, she's got her priorities right, I reckon.
