  • Bakewell pudding has to be one of the best desserts in terms of return for effort. Effort: line tart tin with pastry (I use puff pastry), slap in a couple of tablespoons of raspberry jam and spread over the base of the pastry, mix melted butter with sugar, eggs and ground almonds, pour on top of the jam and bake. Return: deliciousness when eaten warm or cool.

Plus, I don't just make them because I'm lazy... I'm not a huge icing or glacé cherry fan.

      • Good afternoon, its not been a good weekend as OH is suffering severe pain again, and unfortunately the morphine makes her feel sick, and along with that she is,hardly eating which is something I dont like to see, the sickness is something I can relate to as when I got my knees replaced I was very sick both occasions especially after getting morphine I found it better just to thole the pain than be constantly sick. Though its a dry day I have not been out as I don't really feel in the mood for gardening at the moment, but I do hope you all get the opportunity to get out to your garden and get everything the way you want it when coming into the new year, have a good day and hopefully you find something to smile about
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

              • Good evening.

I've got my final lot of Christmas puddings, for one of my sisters, steaming away. Kitchen door shut, windows wide open.

I've never had a Bakewell pudding, but I do love Bakewell tart, minus any flaked or whole almonds, but including plenty of ground almonds. (faddy ...moi????)

One of the community nurses rang this morning. She said she intends calling tomorrow to give Mr GF his three monthly vitamin B12 injection. That was when I realised that although I'd ordered the vitamin B12 on the NHS app a couple of weeks ago, it had never been delivered by the chemist's. After telling her, it was delivered to the door within a couple of hours. I'm impressed.

Rary, I hope you get something sorted out for Mrs Rary. It is awful to have to watch someone you love suffer. Can they not prescribe anti-nausea tablets? Sending virtual hugs to you both.

                • Good night all..Rary, I am so sorry to hear Mrs Rary is suffering so much.I am allergic to morphine and was given petidine injections for my pain instead. Might it be an alternative remedy? I hope she gets some relief soon.

                    • Morning

We've had out first Christmas card pushed through the door so its looking like time for us to deliver the few local ones we send. I'll save that for a finer day than today.

Not faddy at all GF there's no point eating something you're not keen on, there's a few items I don't eat the biggest are jelly and marshmallows. It wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

                      enjoy your day.

                      • Mornin n’alln’all

Yikes Rary- you both are really going through a lot at the moment. You must feel emotionally exhausted. Hopefully things will calm down for you both soon x

A quiet day ahead for me , with a bit of food planning for the festive season, and finalising the prep for our visitor’s arrival later this week. I impulse bought a microwaveable hottie for my granddaughter yesterday…in the shape of a fat, oversized hamster. Looks more like a marmot in all honesty! But I still don’t have anything sorted for my daughter Really must put my thinking cap on…just something simple to unwrap for the tree. She’s really minimalist and very difficult to buy for

Right…got to shake a leg and enjoy the day…keep sharing those smiles…. Jay’s smiles seem to be supercharging them….they were doing backflips over the top of the wild cherry tree this morning

                        • Good morning all, it's a beautiful clear sunny morning here with a temp of just 3 degs.
Going into town this morning with my list in my hand and I am not coming home until I have everything that's on it,
It's quite stressful this t8me of year, busses all full and no car parking spaces to be had.
Hope all are well and have a good day.

                            • Morning all.

Went out very early for a quick grory hop. I needed some more lemons and sugar for lemon curd gifts plus one or two other bits. I got to the supermarket before 7am, although I know they don't open till then, according to the website they will start to open at 6am next week. To my surprise they were already open and some people were already on the way out with their groceries, so they must have brought the early opening forward a week. I was chuffed to get everything I needed and be home again by 7.15am.

Since then I've made 5 jars of lemon curd, spilt in two batches. I couldn't understand why the first batch was taking so long to thicken, when I glanced across the kitchen, and there gazing reproachfully from a bowl on the counter were four beaten eggs that should have been in the pan. I let the mix cool down then added the eggs and heated it again, and it all came good, thank goodness, else I'd have had to make another dash for more lemons/sugar/eggs!

                              • Good afternoon.

What on earth happened to the morning?

My latest grory hop has been delivered. Nothing missing, no substitutions.

I've taken the now cool puddings out of the steamer this morning and packed them up. I've printed their label and booked them for a pickup tomorrow morning. I don't want to tempt fate🤞 but Royal Mail seems to have really improved their service this year. I even had a Sunday delivery last week.

Mr GF is still asleep, probably due to the fact that he was awake for most of the night

It's a chilly 7°C here, but the sun is shining brightly. Nearly the shortest day.
