  • Morning all.

A cooler start to the day, as we actually had a bit of rain last night. Not much, but enough to wet the ground at least. Possibly a bit more later on today as well, but before then it's going to be sweltering again, apparently.

Been up a bit already, trying to get a head start on the day, but haven't managed it. No point crying over it. But got a million and one things to do today. Starting with trying to get Jack to learn the command stay. We've got down, come and sit sorted. 'Gently with Missie' is like water off a dog's back, though.

    Have a great day, everyone.

      • Morning

I was out earlier watering a few things before it gets to hot, but that may be it for gardening today, we'll see what else crops up.

        Enjoy your day

        • Mornin n’alln’all

          Another rubbish night’s sleep
Got a busy day ahead too , so not good timing.

I did a bit of weeding from the gravel driveway yesterday and they were coming out really easily , So I should spend an hour or so doing that too at some point.
More picking of cherries too. It’ll be a stick with a bent nail for a hook job now to pull down some of the higher branches.

I best get a wiggle on before it gets too hot!

Enjoy your day peeps, and pass on that lovely smile!

          • Good morning

Mr GF attempted to get me up before 7am. I am happy to say that he failed miserably although the air did turn slightly blue! I eventually surfaced a little after 8am.

The washer is now quietly chugging away and I am contemplating more coffee. I may then feel able to be part of the human race.

I've another grory hop due between 10am and 11am.

The window cleaner had just been and I have sparkly windows again, the outsides anyway.

I'm not sure which is the best bargain. My monthly £4 midweek delivery pass for my grory hops or my £6 monthly for my windows cleaning. I think they are both a real bargain. Until I got a window vac I was definitely the world's worst window and mirror cleaner. At least now I don't feel too embarrassed by the insides.

I hope a lot of you have got the pleasant weather we have today. Definitely in the "goldilocks zone".

              • Well…Hibou must be feeling better…she’s been scrapping with the local Tomcat….
He’s clearly pushed his limits whist she’s been feeling ill….so he’s well and truly back in his place

Apart from vacuum cleaners and cars , she is a pretty fearless cat. Sweet, but fearless.
We occassionally have people walking their dogs past out house , and in her younger days used to chase off the dogs…you could hear them yelping as they fled her attack!…ooops

                • Good day all. Sunny and cloudy here in equal measures but its just 18 degs.
Having a lot of pain 8n my leg, the doctor decided to send me for an M.R.I scan, had it done this morning.

Lottie sounds good with the melons, might give them a try next year.

Nicos, glad to hear Hibou is back to his active self.
If I might ask a question...the origin 9f the name Hibou...my daughter was asking.

Have a good all and stay cool.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                    • I've got two dogs for an hour, Frank and his friend Harley. Harley is a young Springer with separation issues and a very loud, deep bark! I've had to persuade Lord Ginger to go home, thankfully before the dogs arrived

                      • Afternoon all.

Had a busy morning tidying up the garden while it was cooler. So many flowers have gone over in the heat, to the point where they have not just died down, but the leaves have gone quite crispy and almost crumbly, including oriental poppies, aquilegia, flax, nigella, marigolds even. Only the deep rooted plants still look OK, like sage, dahlias, and peony, though none are in flower ATM.

On my morning walk I was happy to spot that the peregrines that live in the granite quarry appear to have successfully reared 3 chicks this year. Their nest is not visible, being in a cutback part of the quarry, but the three chicks have fledged and were enjoying the early morning sun on a ledge where I often see the adult female.

There are also about 25 -30 pairs of jackdaws that nest and live year round in the quarry. They must be very poor eating, because the peregrines never seem to bother them, and they seldom harass the peregrines. It's rare to see a pigeon in there though!

                        • Hey,

Hope your all well I am still around just been really busy with work. And my other half has been made redundant so had put sorting the plot out on hold. Miss being on here. As for the allotment, since ive moved to a smaller plot, I decided I wanted to turn in into raised beds but now ive found asbestos in the beds. Apparently the site manager wont do nothing about it so I want to move as I don't want to be near that stuff and don't want my dog near it. I've rung, emailed and texted the site manager but he aint getting back to me.
Apart from that I am well

Hope you're all having a good growing season

                            Is it a council plot?

                              • Email the council, Carrie. That's serious hazardous waste. Go straight to their waste or environmental departments and let them know what you've found. Even talk to your councillor.

Nice to see you back, though. And really sorry to hear about your OH. Fingers crossed something turns up soon.
