  • Mornin n’alln’all

I thought I’d posted earlier…must have been dreaming!

Mid 20s forecast most of the week - perfect for gardening eg?

Worrying times re forest fires Snoop - wherever they are.
Nature suffers so badly too. I can’t get the scene from the tv news of those poor burned/singed koalas trying to escape from the Australian forest fires. Imagine standing there heartbreakingly watching your house and all it’s contents which you’ve worked hard for ( and precious memories) just go up in flames. Far too many ‘natural’ disasters going on in the world.

On a brighter note, I forgot to mention that when we were out in the camper we parked up next to a river and saw loads and loads of blue damsel flies. So pretty!…but far too fast to take a piccie of! Not seen any for years

Enjoy your day peeps - and munching your way through your fruit and veggies!

    • Good morning all.
A cool 14 degs here this morning.
I am off to my line dancing in a mo so might burn off a few calories.
No plans yet for the afternoon.
      Have a good day all.

      • I've just taken Mr GF for his blood test at the surgery. He's happily reading his newspaper now. I'm going to set some soup off in the slow cooker and then maybe clean the windows while the sun isn't on them........ a well overdue job. It's cloudy here and a pleasant 14°C with more showers forecast. I'm hoping to dry some washing outdoors inbetween the showers.

Mr GF managed to lose a hearing aid yet again at the doctors, but luckily I found it.

Snoop I hope you get some rain to damp down any fires. They are so scary. I once had to call 112 to report one and although I think the switchboard maybe thought I was a foreigner overreacting to begin with, she changed her mind when she could hear it crackling in the background. It needed fire engines and a plane and helicopter to bring it under control.

        • Morning all. Haven't been on for a while. Hope you are all keeping OK?

Allotment is being very fruitful just now, but think I've mastered how to manage gluts. Biggest challenge is to have veggies ready to go into beds as other crops are harvested. You know me, I hate to see an empty bed!

          • Afternoon,

It looks like I might have Covid I have all the symptoms but tested negative. I'll test again in a couple of days, I've been staying at home just in case.

            • Sympathy like there, Bren. Hope you make a quick recovery.

Nice to see you in the house, Snadger. Well done on getting sorted on having things ready to go in beds when previous crops are harvested. I'm utterly useless at that. Do you have any tips? I really need to improve in that respect.

              • Evening n’alln’all

Oh dear Bren. I suppose it was almost inevitable. Hope it’s just mild and you both recover quickly.

Lovely to see you Snadge - we miss your chatty posts! I was wondering how Kato was coping in all the heat of last week.

Gf…good grief lass - that must have been a scarey experience!

I’ve had a bit of an unexpected day - OH suggested we go up to the mega DIY shop near the coast and call in at IKEA for some lunch.
                So that’s what we did!
Half the things he needed weren’t available but at least he has enough to crack on with things for a couple of weeks at least…and I had fish n’chips . ( I did decline a pudding )

Myfriend is home from hospital and it wasn’t a stroke so I’m delighted. Yippee!

I’m looking forward to hearing about Snoop’s bread making adventures….

sleep well all - see you in the morning!

                • Morning all.

Golly gosh, gf. That must have been scary. That's an experience I can well do without. I have reported a fire here and there was one relatively nearby, bit less than 1/2 km away, but the authorities were here in next to no time. Phew.

Hope you're doing OK today, Bren.

Fish and chips, Nicos... Bet that was good. Sounds like you'll be back in a couple of weeks for another lot!

Anyway, I was wrong, today is the last day of work madness, not yesterday. But definitely today. And then I can play with my new toy. The smiles came down to admire it before heading off, as I haven't done a once around the veg patch yet. Work first, play later.

Catch you all later. Have a great day.

Thanks Snoop an Nicos I suppose being in the same house it was bound to happen.
Scary about that fire being so close Snoop I’ve seen on tv how devastating they can be. Fingers crossed for you.
Good news about your friend Nicos. Fish an chips bought ones taste the best.
I’d give you both likes but they’ve just stopped working.
edited to say I can give likes on my kindle but not iPhone.
                    Back later

sorry to hear you got the dreaded covid Bren, hope it's a mild dose.

Wildfires, we dont get them very often but we are dealing with one at the moment.
People on the far side of the city had to be evacuated from their houses.

A trip to visit the eye specialist and a visual field test for me this morning,
Catch you all later and have a good dsy.

I can't give likes either and when I've read and caught up on a thread it's still showing new posts. One of lifes little niggles.

We've just been to the doctor's surgery again. Maybe we should get a season ticket. It was my turn today though, for an injection.

Must do some housework now......and yes I am putting it off!

                          • I spoke too soon. I couldn't get in at all a while ago.

I've put off the housework (again) and I've shortened one pair of trousers for my friend. If they are perfect for him I'll do the other two pairs tomorrow. It took me for ever to find my sewing machine before I could start. The last time I'd used it was to make some masks at the beginning of the pandemic.

                            • Morning all.

Good work on the trousers, GF. Glad we're not the only ones who can lose things in the black hole that is our home... Though it would be fair to say that the things we lose do tend to be smaller than a sewing machine.

Work to finish off this morning, need to do a bit of watering and then definitely time to play with my new toy.

As you can see from the emojis, the smiles have been busy here already. They went and had a flit about with the flock of greenfinches down in the fields before setting off. The greenfinches are an odd sight, as I associate them with autumn, not this time of year. Other birds I was not so pleased to see were four pigeons in one of our big pear trees, hacking away at the fruit. Not many to start with after the frost. I picked four good ones for us, but they're pretty hard. We have some beautiful Limonera pears, about a dozen survived the frosts but they are whoppers. Fingers crossed for them. Pigeons after our fruit is a new phenomenon.

Anyway, better get on with the show. Have a great day everyone.

                              • Morning all.

Looks like we may have had a little light rain overnight, it's laid the dust but not watered the earth. The dryness is making all the flowers go over so quickly. I water the pots and tubs, and the courgettes, but nothing else as it seems selfish to use drinking water we may need if this drought continues.

Had a haircut yesterday and let the junior wash my hair in cold(ish) water as I couldn't bear to hear it running down the drain as she waited for the hot water to come through.

Picked a kilo of wild blackberries yesterday, the first of the year. But many bushes still had flowers on or green berries a long way from ripeness.

Grory hop today and maybe a potter around the garden centre.
