  • Eventually, at Mr GF's suggestion, we decided on bacon, egg, and tomatoes, with bread and butter.

The last of the lime jelly with mandarins and cream.

Mr GF is now really, really happy, having wiped and scraped his plates clean, and waiting for another cup of tea. To be fair my plate/dish was also scraped clean.

    • I'm not cooking tonight. We're invited up the valley, but whether I eat anything is moot. Very full of assorted pizzas and apricot and raspberry clafoutis and cream for afters for lunch.

        • Tonight salmon en croute, Jersey royals, corn on the cob and aubergine fritters. I need to visit the shop today that has unexpectedly had Padron peppers on my last few visits. If they have some, we'll have a dish of them too.

          Strawberries and cream.

          • Our neighbour down the valley makes amazing brandade of cod and has given us a tubful. Better eat it tonight, perhaps with some toast and salad. No piquillo peppers, otherwise I'd stuff some of them with it.

By the way, yesterday's apricot and raspberry clafoutis was really good. A Tesco recipe in which the apricots are just slightly pre-cooked. Best fresh apricot recipe I've had yet. Made me think it might be worth seeing if I can get a tree to grow. https://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/a...clafoutis.html

            • Snoop Puss, that clafoutis looks very tempting. Is it still nice cold? I think apricots might be on my next shopping list.

We ate it cold, as I needed the oven for baking pizzas. It was very good cold with a generous dollop of cream on top.

They were very good apricots. Mr Snoop got given them by a delivery man he got chatting to. The man said they were bruised so not suitable for the supermarkets he was delivering to and so gave a couple of kg to Mr Snoop. I cut a couple of very minor blemishes off a couple of the fruit, but other than that they were perfect.

                • That does look a lovely clafoutis Snoop. So much so, I’ve printed off the recipe. Thanks for that!

Its gone cooler here so I thought roasted quail with mashed spuds ,roasted onions and beans would be nice.
Not sure about pud yet though….

                        • Up the valley for supper tonight. Lunch had better be the brandade that we didn't have last night - cheese and chutney toasty instead.

                          • Last night's salmon en croute, on offer from the supermarket, was a total letdown. Best description ..... cat food in soggy pastry. I'll stick to just buying fresh salmon in the future.

Tonight cheese and onion crispbakes, couscous, roast vegetables (onion, garlic, courgette, aubergine, peppers, radish, and tomatoes), a bowl of Padron peppers and coleslaw. Date and apple chutney.

                            Strawberries and cream.

                            • Depending on if it’s still raining….roasted or BBQ chicken thighs served with our own Swiss chard and gnocchi

Finishing off the chocolate fondant for pud ( which was suggesting serves 8-10) ooops

                              • Tonight I think I'll make a salmon risotto, with courgette, sweetcorn and peas and preserved lemon in it too. I want some proper salmon to eradicate the thought of the awful salmon en croute we had a couple of days ago.

The last of the strawberries for Mr GF and crackers and blue cheese for me.
