  • Good morning all.

There's no rain forecast, so maybe it's time to put the washer on. My grory hop has just been delivered. They had everything I ordered, but did I really order mince pies and sultana scones? I think a gremlin (a thirteen stone, white-haired, elderly gremlin) has sneaked in and added to my list. Obviously, he can't remember now. They are things he loves, though, and I must admit that scones are not one of my baking triumphs and if he'd mentioned mince pies I'd probably have said, " In September!!". The baked Alaska will be put on hold for a couple of days and I'm considering whipping up some brandy cream to accompany the mince pies.

    Time for more coffee now.

    • Good afternoon, had my op. this morning, and hand now beginning to goupe, if it gets much worse I will be sklimin the waas, (interpretation:- its beginning to get very sore and pulsing pain, if it increases I will be climbing the walls) different hospital different procedures, at Ayr hospital I was given a gown to cover my clothes, in Kilmarnock hospital this morning, remove all clothes and wear a smock and dressing gown, guess who said, take a small bag with you to hold your stuff, and guess who said no a bag wont be necessary anyway op carried out successfully, while getting the op a nurse was sitting at my side evedently to monitor temperature and pressure, as well as keeping an eye on me and distract me from the procedure, ie, question "are you married" answer yes but on a trial basis, Q. oh how long for A. almost sixty years, reaction from other side,, could you please stop answering like that, I'm trying to concentrate on what I'm doing, I was then asked if I could see what they were doing with my hand, which of course I couldn't so the surgeon lifted my hand and pointed to a rather large hole in my hand, slightly bigger than a £2 coin, he pointed out cord and saidthis is the nerve thats been giving you the problem and as the plate that we removed was a bit ragged I can understand why, now wiggle you fingers, see the movement, thats your tendons, so all in all quite an educational morning , now going for a sleep to give thecpain time to abate, so enjoy your day whatever the weather, and here's a challenge for you, find something that makes you smile and then pass on the smiles

        • rary, I'm interested - did you have an operation on your hand for de Puytrens Contracture (aka the Viking Disease)? My husband had the same operation down here in Cornwall in January 2024 and was fascinated by the whole procedure (I think I would have freaked out). It was a day patient procedure and I'm not sure if he had to change into surgical togs. Being the stubborn Aries that he is, he actually walked to the hospital and back again afterwards, appearing cheerfully at the front door about four hours after he left with his hand bandaged and his arm in a sling. He made a full recovery and has full use of his hand now. Wishing you a swift and easy recovery from the op. Take it gently, use painkillers, do the physiotherapy exercises - but I'm sure you already know all that!

It's been a lovely sunny day down here in Cornwall. We went out for lunch and smiled at all the dogs that came into the pacific beach themed restaurant where we chose a spot on the outside deck. They seemed to be mainly Cockerpoos and Labradoodles which can be a bit scatty. They didn't always want to go the way their owners wanted which was amusing. But we enjoyed our lunch and I watered a few plants when we returned home. Hubby has now driven to Falmouth to play table tennis with his team so I wished him luck. Not sure if I actually want any dinner having had such a big lunch ...

                  • Good morning all.

                    Welcome back, Nicos and Lottie.

It's cold raining and miserable here. I've already put the heating on and coffee is turning me back into a human being .... more or less.

I've got to go for a 'flu jab at the surgery at lunchtime.

rary, I hope that you're not in too much pain. I'm sure that Mrs Rary is looking after you as well as you will let her, considering that your marriage is only on a trial basis.

I need to go and see my brother in law and sort out some bills for him today too.

The washer is on and is quietly chugging away. I'm now trying to decide what we might have for our evening meal and wondering what else I need to put on my list for tomorrow's grory hop delivery. I fancy something different.

                    Right, more coffee. Help yourselves.

                          • Morning all, and a drizzly one it's been. Just about stopped now though. Did a grory hop early today. The going-to-work traffic seemed particularly grumpy and pushy. I always leave a bit of room for those few who find themselves in the wrong lane at lights or roundabouts but today there seemed to be lots coming down the outside lanes then shoving their way back into the lane they really needed to be in. It always bewilders me why they don't just get up in time not to have to rush. But some things never change.

I hope all those who are unwell are improving. Lottie, I'm sorry your holiday didn't turn out as good as you expected, but I'm sure the break and change of air will have done you good.

                            Welcome home Nicos!

                            • Good morning, heavy rain here just now and has been for the last three hours, so I expect some roads to be closed shortly, actually had a good sleep last night, went to bed at eleven and slept till ten, woke a couple of times when I was turning but back to sleep quiet quickly, not slept as long for quite a time,
Armorel, it was a carpal tunnel syndrome op. that I had, and the first thing that you get asked is who is picking you up, no doubt if I insisted that I was walking home they wouldn't stop me, but a twenty mile walk is not a thing I would fancy doing, as for pain killers I had some yesterday, but I can thole the pain today so no more, OH has just informed that a number of roads closed have been closed due to sever flooding so just hope there are no accidents
I am now going to try and make some soup, I had prepared some stuff on Monday for this and just waiting on some chicken stock to defrost, so have a good and safe day if you have the heavy rain in your area take care and avoid going out if you can, and remember to pass on your smiles
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                              • Afternoon all. No idea where the morning went, but it's definitely gone!

Sorry your trip wasn't as great as you'd hoped, LD. Good to have another one on the horizon, though.

                                Happy travels, bramble.

Welcome to the madhouse of the chitchat thread, Armorel. There's usually someone up to some caper or other on here, often rary...

Speaking of whom, that must have been quite an interesting op, rary. Was it odd, seeing inside your hand? Glad you're over the worst of the pain already. Just make sure you don't overdo it.

And with that, I'd better try and get something done this afternoon. Got a bit of work, then some errands in the village.

Have a great rest of the day, everyone.
