  • Morning GF I too woke at 4 and couldn't get back to sleep, its our normal time though which doesn't help on a weekend.
It seems darker this morning, I'd normally be walking by now.
We have rain later so I think some outdoor jobs with OH and then reading later.

    Another coffee Gf?
    Brew anyone?

    • Morning all.

I've been up a while so I'm ready for another brew, CG, thanks.

The heating has come on so it must be cold outside, though there is no frost, too much cloud cover I guess. everywhere was dusted yesterday, so I just need to vaccuum today and all the domestics are done for the week.

Hopefully it will stay dry so I can put a top coat of paint on the bedside cabinet. I like to paint outside if the weather is good, it's less hassle than having to protect furnishings from my messy ways. It's seen good service, this cabinet, 'twas my elder sister's when she was a girl, then passed to me when she left home, so must be at least 60 years old. It has spent most of its life as brown varnished plywood, but now it's brilliant white, or will be when it's done.

      • Yes, another coffee for me, please. I'm still in bed. It felt quite chilly when I got out to make coffee. It's probably now the time of year to keep a long hoody ready to grab on cold mornings rather than wandering round in a long shirt.

If you can afford it, a condenser dryer is way better than one with a vent hose. Go for the biggest capacity you can, clothes tumble better. One with a sensor that senses when the clothes are dry and ends the program even if there is still time to go saves electricity and is better for clothes. Make sure the filters are easy to remove and clean, and I would go for one that has the water reservoir (where the condensed water collects) at the top of the machine, so you don't have to bend down and lift it from floor level.

The government wants to change us all to heat pump dryers. Ha! They take twice as long to dry, and need specialist maintenance if something goes wrong.

            • Thanks for that advice, mothhawk. It is very useful. It's decades since I've used one and I think there was only one sort back then.

I sanded off the varnish, then gave it two coats of a combined wood primer and undercoat, then two coats of dulux quick dry satinwood. I don't bother too much about brand, B&Q paint worked fine on all my skirting, and I used Johnstones emulsion on my walls. I tend to go with whatever is on offer.

                        • Afternoon all.

Bit surprised I haven't posted yet today. Sounds like you've all been very busy but I feel like I've got next to nothing to show for the last nigh-on eight hours.

Mind you, I don't need to worry about cooking supper tonight. The neighbour down the valley has just made a surprise visit with a 'túper' (short for tupperware but used for any kind of plastic container) full of a stew containing meat, peas, potato and a load of gravy made by his wife. It's one of the many dishes known in Spanish as 'platos de cuchara', food you eat with a spoon and a chuck of bread. I love platos de cuchara, as does Mr Snoop, who's main food loves are bread and gravy. How the neighbour managed to walk all that way without spilling a drop of the gravy I do not know. Especially as he crossed quite rough terrain.

And our Italian friend is due to visit soon, bringing dog treats and cat food. We really are very lucky with our neighbours.

Time for a cup of tea here. I'll make a pot if anyone wants another.

Have a great rest of the day, everyone.

                          • Good afternoon, apologies for not posting yesterday I had made out a post but didn't check that it posted properly, I did want to give my thanks for the kind thoughts with regards to my grandson, who by the way intends to go back to his work on Monday, fortunately its a small local landscape company and they have high regards for him as he is always on time and never phoning in to say he will be off that day, I think Monday is the first time he has ever done that, they had problems in the past with younger folk, being late or not turning up, so I know that he will be looked after.
Cool and wet here today, we had Daisy overnight and granddaughter dropped off Rosy before going to her work, fortunately I had taken them out for a walk and was back in before the heavy, rain started, I have spent a bit of time in the greenhouse removing some shelves, but really need to get some stuff cleared out before Tuesday so that I have some room to work once I can get back out, I'm quite sure I will manage to get somethings done with one hand, after all I manage to get a fair bit done even when my right hand is holding up my troosers whe the string breaks have a pleasant evening and remember pass on your smiles

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                            • It looks as if it's going to be another sleepless night. I actually feel tired, but I just cannot drop off to sleep. I can hear the relentless rain hitting the window. I've just been looking at recipes. Chicken Yassa looks interesting. I might be having a go at it this week.

I taxed the car earlier. It took about 3 minutes. It's not that many years ago when I had to find the MOT and insurance certificate, which were never where I expected, drive into the city centre and park, and then go and join the long queue at the main post office, which at the end of the month used to snake around the shop and outside too. It used to take forever and I hate queueing at the best of times. Now it's just a matter of a few clicks on my phone.

I'm going to try again to sleep. Maybe I'll try and imagine that I'm driving along a motorway at night in the pouring rain. I usually have to stop for coffee every couple of hours to keep me awake and alert.

We should have had heavy rain but it was only light. Seems bright enough enough today, will pop and see mum.
