  • I've been trying to decide between fish pie, aubergine and tomato soup, or omelette. I think I'll go for fish pie topped with mashed potatoes. I'll go and have a root through the freezer for some cod or haddock next.

                • I think this evening we'll have prawns in beer batter (surplus beer for the cook), either homemade tartare or Marie Rose sauce, and salad.

                      • All change: I cheated. Cassoulet out of a can with a glass (or two in my case) of a really good bottle of local red. Good Saturday night supper.

                          • Roast chicken with assorted veg.

                            (Manjula's black-eyed beans for brunch.)

All change on the chicken. Given that we have more figs than I know what to do with, I don't know why I didn't think of this before: roast chicken with onions, garlic, figs and white beans. It'll be a bit of an invention. But I like all the bits, so I'm sure the sum of the parts should be good. Maybe some tagine spices on top of the chicken?

                              • I'm thinking that I fancy soup. I think it will be aubergine and tomato. I also got some chicken liver pate out of the freezer last night. We can have some of that on crusty bread with it or have it later/earlier.
