  • Finally got some pics of the Greater Spotted Woodpecker that's been feeding on the fat balls at the lottie. I've been waiting, camera in hand, for about 6 weeks to get a decent shot, it's taken me all that time (I am a bloke after all) to realise the movement of camera to eye sent him (her?) scurrying away. So tripod set up today, I swear it posed for me

      • Gorgeous photos, we have one visiting our garden, along with a green woodpecker. But no luck in getting a good photo yet - they seem to be very camera-shy

I hadn't even noticed that Nicos, nice balancing act though.

                    • Spotted in the garden...

Some of the beasties in the garden.

Praying mantis female - she was being approached by the male who did the deed and escaped with his head! Yesterday we saw the first nymph, about the size of my little finger nail

Green lizard basking on my pretty cardboard mulch! This fellow is a little shorter than my forearm.

Asp vipers. They look like really polished walnut, very beautiful and it is hard to resist touching, but they are venomous.

                      • Not exactly wildlife, because these were taken at The World Owl Centre @ Muncaster Castle in the lake district, but they're such beautiful birds that I wanted to share them.

                          • Does the last one only have one wing??

                            • No, it's just the perspective.

                              • The old "stretch only one wing to confuse the onlookers" trick.
