    • I've seen two really exotic (I think) looking things in the past two weeks, that have turned out to be pretty common -

A Buff Ermine Moth's caterpillar (there are about 7 or 8 of these living in amongst my courgette's leaves, and raspberry plants) -

And a really nicely coloured moth that turned out to be a really common one called an Angle Shades -

      • As I walked out of my back door yesterday I spotted these two beauties sunbathing on the garden fence, either side of a french bean:

Comma butterfly (I believe - quite distinctive)

        Red admiral

A very cheering sight they were too

Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,

Yeah but kingfishers dont leave a slimy mess when you pick them up and they don't go through this stage either

                    • Found these the other day, not sure what they belong to (some kind of caterpillar me thinks) but I love the shape of them. I didn't squidge them there's not much left in the garden for them to eat now.

If that was a kingfisher it would be seriously ugly.

                        • We've had green woodpeckers visiting our garden over the course of the year. A couple of months ago there was a parent teaching its chick to find ants in the lawn, unfortunately I didn't get any pics of that.

Unfortunately not one of my photos - my brother is much keener than me! He spotted this in the summer, it has a wingspan of 10cm

                            • I found these two in the garden, under the pallets we are storing old roof tiles on.
The toad had the most beautiful eyes...

And this little fellow is apparently a marbled newt.... I had to look it up on google as I have never seen one before. He was very gentle and seemed to like the hot seat of the quad bike...

I took these at our local RSPB reserve on Tuesday. I was trying out my early Christmas present. Still working out how to use it but I'll get there.
