I use toilet paper rather than normal paper.

Separate the 2 or 3 ply stuff into single ply strips, as long as you need.

Fold over the paper and cut along the centreline, giving a long strip about 2 inches (5cm) wide.

Stretch out strip on worktop (paper below for the mess first)

Fold this strip in half, forming a nice crease, then open

Mix a glue, equal parts flour and water

use a wee paint brush, or cotton bud to dab on a blob of glue at the required space.

Place one seed on each blob. (If you like, add a couple of radish seeds per tape, to help 'mark' the row.

Fold over paper and squash together.

    Leave to dry.

Store in a plastic bag until ready to use

You can do something similar with kitchen roll (again single ply cheapie stuff) and use it for seed tray sowing. One single ply sheet per side

Cut the paper the right size for your seed tray (obviously really !!)

Lay out the two sheets of paper, then put a blob of glue as before on the one sheet only then the seed at a suitable spacing.

Fold over and press down, especially where the glue is.

      Leave to dry

When sowing ... fill tray with compost, level off the surface and water if required. Place 'mat' of seeds, then add more compost. Some more water, if required, depending on depth of compost above the seeds

      Easy peasy, lemon squeezey

Bigmallly, pop into a habardashers and ask to see 'bias binding'. I've got some I've sent through a wash cycle to remove the starch. Give it a go.

                  Cheers, Tony.

Thanks for the advice Tony but I am trying to avoid buying stuff when I have plenty of newspaper at hand.

The bias tape won't disintegrate like paper though Tony.

Tony, wouldn't bias binding take much longer to disintegrate than newspaper?

Also: I'm totally going to try to make my own seed tapes/discs! Would this also work with carrots?

It was carrot tape that gave me the idea so I don't see why it won't work...........you'll need good eyesight though.............
