My Red Alerts are setting some decent fruit, but don't really resemble the "bush" descriptor. My Sungold are leggy, the rest are only around a foot tall apart from a few brave souls that dared to grow bigger and are currently duct taped to keep their bent stems straight.

I usually allow tomatoes to fork once just incase the stem breaks and to set fruit more quickly, but this is the first year I've abandoned hope of height growth and focused on side shoots to set fruit for the smallest ones to encourage a crop. It'll all go horribly wrong I'm sure!

The ones I planted out have been munched by slugs, t'others are drowning in their pots. None are big enough to flower - even the early Jan sown ones
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

Some sown end of Feb, some sown mid-March.

Mid-march ones have one to two trusses of buds and a few have opened into flowers.

End of Feb ones have two to three trusses, lots of opened flowers and three baby fruit so far.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Mine are well behind. The promise of flowers but not quite theref yet and all my tom plants are no taller than 8 inches, if that, the smallest under 4 inches! I live in hope.

I have San marzano and yellow stuffer in a sheltered spot in the garden. They were from freebie seeds and were decent sized plants before I found they do better under cover! They are looking very healthy and starting to flower but what their long term prospects would be outdoors I do not know. I'm thinking of moving them in to a plastic greenhouse.

My sweet million tomato sown in march is only about a foot high against it's trellis. It's started to flower but doesnt look like its going to grow much more.

Well most of my plants have come through the wind unscathed and have started getting flowers.

The only ones to suffer are 2 my most advanced bush varieties. Although they have small fruit the wind has snapped the top 5/6 inches off the growing pointof the plant. Anyone know if this means the plants wont get any higher or will they sprout a new growing point?

Stick the growing point in a jar of water and it will root.

I have one tub with a couple of tumbling tom plants in that's about nearly two foot high, plenty of flowers
but no fruit yet. I have some other tumbling tom plants that were started at the same time ( end of march I think),
but are very small. I think the reason is that I was a bit slow re-potting some of them so they were a bit
                    pot bound.

                      Just done that, thanks.

Will the original plants now just grow sideways though?

They are bush varieties so I expect they'll just bush out more . I've never had bush varieties grow very tall anyway......

Mine were planted at the end of March and Early april and are about 18 inches and have two to three trusses of flowers. For some reason they are the only thing in the garden that seem to be loving this weather and have put on a lot of growth in the last few weeks. They are all outside and are mostly heritage varieties or gardeners delight. Need sun though to set and ripen fruit!

My biggest one, Outdoor Girl, is 36" tall, has 6 trusses and a number of green fruit.

I have a few Alicante or Gardener's Delight (not sure which one as I didn't label them, maybe it's a mix of both?), and 2 Beefsteaks which are supposed to be grown in a greenhouse but I have them growing in the ground outside. They're all ~25" tall and have 2-3 trusses each.

And I have 4 'suckers' or 'armpits' that I had snipped off the Outdoor Girl, rooted in soil, and planted in the ground. They're small and not showing much growth. At least one has 2 trusses, but the buds don't seem to be progressing into flowers.

After the problem this year, i'm tempted to buy a heater for inside the greenhouse.

My cherrys are about 1.5 feet tall and just starting to show signs of budding. My others are between 8 inches and a foot tall and not as advanced yet.
