24th April 1981 we had to dig the car out of the snow to get to my cousin's 21st birthday party.

Unlikely to be April, but could have been December 1981 when some coastal water froze over during a very cold spell.

Some pleasantly warm weather over the next couple of days, with welcome rain arriving for most at the weekend. It then looks likely to be much more showery/wetter than recently, with a quite notable cold snap around 6th-7th May starting to show up on several of the models. This could lead to night frosts, so if you are considering planting out tender plants over the bank holiday you might want to think again!

Of course this is a long way off and things could change, but it is wise to be aware that summer is not here yet.

Containergardener I need to dig out my fathers slides he took when I was a nipper…there is a piccie of me walking on the frozen sea in Blackpool back in January( ish) 1961
Could you be old enough for that the be the date you are thinking of?
