Another day when the best laid plans... Having sorted the raspberries in the morning, I went to the allotment after lunch intending to cut the grass, but I couldn't because the hedge top between the allotment and the house next to it had been cut and large (some 6ft long) branches of elder and ash were all over the grass and stuck in the hedge. This is fine - they can't get into the allotment to clear up as the gate is locked, and the leaves from the branches add significantly to the volume of my compost. But it meant that by the time I had got all the loose bits out of the hedge and stripped off the leaves there was no time left to do anything else.

There is a wildfire on the North York moors and unfortunately this weekend the smoke was blowing over York making being outside rather unpleasant. Gardening was therefore mostly limited to absolute essentials, plus things I could do in a few minutes at home.

Now that we can see a bit more of what is actually there, I need to decide what to do the the road end, as the small piece of fencing at right angles to the road is different to the panel fence that will be put up and is also higher. My thought is it would be best to take that bit down and run the new fence all the way to the road, which would look better. I have no idea how difficult that would be.
