  • 2 courgettes and 1 marrow

    courgettes - 55 + 2 = 57
    "marrows" - 2 + 1 = 3

We have a favourite stuffed marrow recipe which is why I'm letting a few of the courgettes grow big.

    • None!! Something is doing for my courgettes in the ground - they look great for a while, then stop producing leaves and turn up their toes and die. Any ideas? Fingers crossed the ones in pots will be ok, but a late crop if any as only sowed them in late July.

Looking at my last update, I realised I failed to update the count last week, which means I've lost track :-/

Let me see if I can figure it out:

Cucumbers: 3 (for sure, coz I picked 2 last week and no more)
          Trombo: 12
Courgette: 18 (lost count! 14 from last update, plus I *think* at least 4 more)
          Patty pan: 3

            • So, after today's trip to the allotment, the total goes up to:

              Cukes: 5
              Trombos: 20
Courgettes: 18 (I didn't even look their way... 8 trombos were enough curcubitacae for me for one day)
              Patty pan: 3

In other news, I picked my biggest trombo yet...

                • Three courgettes today

                  courgettes - 57 = 60
                  "marrows" - 3

I stopped feeding them several weeks ago. There are still lots of baby ones coming on though now that the weather is cooling I expect they will slow down.

                  • I can join in with something!

We harvested our first courgette at the weekend. I have a delightful photo of my partner wielding it, surrounded by weeds we've neglected.

So for me- 1, "Striato di Napoli"

Bit scared, it's advertised as a big producer and right from the start has been the most vigorous thing I've grown. I am not sure what to make of tons of courgette.

Lots of friends? give them away to generate vegetal good will? (note, you will be unlikely to give them away at the allotments as everyone else will be in the same boat). If there's a local coffee shop, you might offer them as an incentive to give you their coffee grounds? (they do seem to work as slug repellers.
Our site has a giveaway to a foodbank. not sure how it is organised, but it might be an option.

I can't offer much advice if you really wanted any about how I made it grow good, started it on the windowsill because I started late, (Didn't want anything eating my seed) only just got the plot of land and all that- it was planted outside in days because by then it was already dwarfing it's diddy pot. I wonder if it's just really liked the silly amount of rain we've had.

We've got an allotment bbq at the weekend. I might sneak in some home made skewers, just courgette, and hope nobody else has the same idea.
