Had a bit of a setback. One of my two courgette plants complete broke off at the stem. Not sure why think it was just the wind but bit gutted. I planted another seed quickly and it’s just germinated.

          Cucs 1
          Squash 0
          Courgettes 3

Everything has slowed down with the return of the cold and rain. I next expect to see sunshine in a week!

The thing I grow best are very large slugs!

Although the courgette plants have been planted out for a couple of weeks now and look healthy they don't seem to be liking the weather and have slowed right down. Heaven knows when I'll get courgettes.
I planted 3 cucumber plants in the greenhouse border, they have slowed down too and one has given up the ghost. (I have got a spare lurking somewhere.) I really think we need some sunshine.

Picked my first cucumber at the weekend. My son said it tasted ‘ok’. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Starting to feel a little jealous of all this courgette, squash & cucumber harvesting that's going on.
None of mine are even close

I haven't even had any flowers yet.... Waaaaaah!

On the plus side, the cucumber that was a victim of the 8yo's over-enthusiastic parcel collection has managed to generate itself a new growing point, which I think is jolly good of it... ;-)

A week later and no sign of any here, either In fact the few plants that did escape the allotment slug attack, still haven't decided whether to live or die - it's just one of those years, I think.
The greenhouse cukes are at least flowering, so I've high hopes for them...

I'm experimenting with mine this year. They're in blue barrels cut in half. Each half has a courgette and a few DFBs (and some rogue spuds left from last year).
So far, so good. They're easier to see and pick and the slugs don't seem to have found them yet - whereas the DFBs at ground level have been decimated.
I'll let you know later in the year whether I'll grow them the same way next year.
