  • Good morning all.

I'm still in bed under the duvet. I do like the feel of brushed cotton bedding at this time of the year.

I went outside to put some rubbish out late last night and it smelled like bonfire night. There's no fog this morning though. I'm sure it always used to be foggy the morning after bonfire night.

I am just debating the merits of getting up and making a coffee or trying to grab another hour of sleep ....... Maybe I'll turn the thermostat up and delay the decision for ten minutes.

    • Good Morning All Strangely there is no bonfire smell here this morning. Loads of fireworks last night some of them so loud we had to pause the.TV programme we were watching.
It's sunny here. Have a good day

        • Good morning all, it's bright and sunny here and it's 15 degs.
Hair app this afternoon, badly needed as there was a mix up with my app and my hair is needing attention.

Nicos, yes Samhain, marking the end of the summer and the beginning of the winter,
Harvest festival, when all the crops and the animals were gathered indoors.
Also said to be a time for the holy soul's, between all saints and all soul's day.
Very spiritual in times past, although its still celebrated in rural Ireland more so.

Not a lot else on the cards although I might do some pottering in the garden this morning.
          Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

          • Well, while I was thinking about getting out of bed to turn the thermostat up ..... I fell back asleep ..... for two more hours

I'm waiting for my grory hop delivery now

There is no sunshine in the forecast for today, however nobody told the sun that it was confined to barracks and it keeps peeping out.

            ……………………

Grory hop has been delivered and I've put it away. I've also been ordering some stuff online for my brother in law.

            • Afternoon all. Quick say hello before heading off out again up the valley for lunch with M. Jack is banned from his place so we'll tie him to the car and hope he doesn't tow it away. Ordinarily we'd leave him at home, but he's been in most of the morning on his own, so he's protesting rather a bit.

              Catch you all later.

              Have a great afternoon meanwhile.

              • Snoop Puss, dare I ask why Jack is persona non grata?

I've just been watching Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares with Mr GF. We never eat out these days, due to Mr GF's lack of mobility and lack of appetite, but having seen some of the kitchens and fridges on the show, I think that I could now be put off for life. I am NOT particularly houseproud BUT no way!!!! I remember back in the 1970s my mother was taking an evening course in public health at the local tech. I was the person that she used to revise with and "test" her. It was a standing joke after weeks of this that she wished that she could send me to take her exam! She did pass though

I must admit that at that time in my life I mostly did not cook and had no interest whatsoever. I ate most of my meals at work. But the facts lodged in my brain.

                • Jack's problem is he is an over-affectionate outsize gangly puppy. A friend who knows about dogs came round to visit today. Says Jack is probably now around 40 kg. Personally I think that's an exaggeration but he's maybe heading towards 35 kg. He's six months old... So he has puppy-dog behaviour in a huge, leggy body. For a dog, he's smart and is learning, but he gets overtaken by excitement and still jumps up at people. He's incredibly strong and he runs like the wind. And he's a terrible thief. His head is now above table height, so he just sees things and they might as well be on the floor and for him as far as he's concerned. Eventually we'll sort him out, but it's hard to remember how young he is when you see how big he is.

The latest thinking among friends who know about these things is that he's a doberman/greyhound cross.

He's not at all the dog the pound told us he'd be when we adopted him. I've thought very long and hard about perhaps returning him, but it would be devastating for him as I don't think anyone else would take him on. And Mr Snoop has got quite attached to him. Plus he's convinced that when Jack is older, he will be a magnificent hound and that's quite possibly the case. Meanwhile, he's a four-legged self-guided missile with a nose for food and trouble.

Snoop Jack sounds a handful just now but he'll hopefully grow up to be happy, affectionate and obedient. I found this site on Doberman Greyhounds lots of info, it might be useful.

                    • Good morning all.

It's grey and murky here. I'm drinking coffee and getting ready to do something more productive. Mr GF is still I'm the land of nod even though I've opened the curtains. I'll put the news on the TV next and see if that wakes him up. It usually does.

                      TV not needed. He's awake.

                      …………………

The sun has just managed to peep out, contrary to the forecast. I don't suppose it will last but it's still nice to see.

Snoop Puss, I keep imagining Jack as being similar to Scooby Doo.

rary, I hope the tramadol is helping Mrs Rary. Back pain can be so debilitating. I remember Mr GF once mildly saying to me "I think you ought to ring the doctor in the morning." How he survived the torrent of abuse that he got as a reply, as I growled through the pain, I will never know. Believe me I was on the doctor's doorstep, using two walking sticks, the next morning. Tramadol and diazapam got me through the worst.

                      Back later.....

                      • Good Morning All Your hair looks nice Bramble. It's dull here, but fine so far. Jack does sound like a Scooby GF! I love big daft puppies and I'm sure he'll be a devoted and obedient dog when he reaches maturity. We've always had huge German Shepherds so it's been a surprise to find that we love Frank!
Lots of love and patience needed Snoop and you obviously have that.
                        Have a good day

                        • Good morning all and it's another mild, but wet morning.
Domestics first and then a visit to the nursing home to visit our friend Joan.

Flo,thanks for the compliment, I feel more human now that my hair is cut.

Snoop, Jack sounds like a bundle of fun, still pushing the boundaries and learning the rules.

Rary, hope your wife gets some pain relief from the tramadol,I have always takrn neurofen and found them effective.

Have a good day all,and enjoy the sunshine, those that are lucky to have it.

                          • Evening all.

Apologies for such a late arrival on parade.

Thanks for the website link, Bren. I hadn't come across that. The video is heartening and depressing. Heartening that such good behaviour is possible. Depressing in that I have no idea how to get there.

Jack faces the problem of lack of sufficient attention. We got him before Mr Snoop got ill and now there's really only me to look after Jack, as well as do all my household chores, Mr Snoop's, look after Mr Snoop and do my work. I do recognise that Jack needs more, but at the moment that's not possible. And there are no dog trainers available locally. We've advertised for dog walkers, but no-one has come forward. Anyway, we're all getting by as best we can and I'm sure everything will work out in the long run.

Anyway, an odd day today full of errands. Still no work done but the hours were filled productively and that will have to do!

                            Have a nice evening, everyone.

                            • Snoop,so sorry you're going through a tough time at the moment.
Look after yourself as it is important you don't become stressed or overworked.
Hopefully Jack will quieten down as he gets older.
Sending positive thoughts for Mr Snoops health.

                              • Good evening, GF I I have experienced, what you are talking about, I really must remember that wives are not as considerate and understanding as husbands was down at the hospital today with OH as she was getting an x-ray, we left the house giving us plenty of time to get to the hospital unfortunately with road works we finished up having to move a bit faster than I wanted to go as I was I intended drive a bit slower to avoid OH getting any bumps, fortunately its mostly duel carriageway and the road was itn good condition, as the road had been resurfaced three or four months ago, took longer to help her out her clothes than to get her x-ray, ah changed times. Once back home I prepared the tea then headed out to the greenhouse for a time, and now feeling a bit sore as I was mixing some cement and a wee drop of concrete, as I dont have a board for doing this I used a poly bag to mix the cement, and mixing it that way is a bit sore on arthritic shoulders, though it does show that I am doing the right thing getting it done before I get old
Enjoy the remainder of the evening and here are some smiles just for you
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
