  • Morning all.

Cool start to the day. Mr Snoop nice and cosy last night, as I found a single down quilt. Goodness knows when it was made, probably by a seamstress. A very odd size - looks more like it's for a child's cot or bed, but perfect for Mr Snoop sleeping in his chair - and no fancy box structure to stop the down from settling at one end. Flung it on him (it's the only way to get it anywhere, it's so lofty) and it looked like a zeppelin had landed in the middle of the room. No idea how whoever made it managed to get so much air in there. I have visions of someone with a bicycle pump, pumping it up while the last stitches of the final seam were done.

Right, that's enough nonsense and flights of fancy for one day. Got a dog to walk and errands to run in the village before settling down to work. Mustn't forget to drink my cup of tea. Enough in the pot for a couple of cups if anyone wants to join me.

    Have a great day, everyone.

        • Mornin n’alln’all

My turn for the decent sleep too last night! Phew…very much needed

We too have lots of drizzle going on outside- with a fair amount of blustery wind too. But it’s warm…most unusual for what otherwise looks like a child’s drawing of an autumn day. Certainly the leaves are colouring up and dropping too. All I need is an inside out umberella and some red wellies and the scene would be perfect!

Wellies? I don’t actually own a pair…I have ankle height rubber muckers ….and zippable , breathable, knee length gortex type boots.
The muckers are my go-to so long as there isn’t long grass.
What do other peeps wear for dog walking/ working on the plot when it’s been raining?

More indoor stuff for me too as well , and of course cooking down more apple to freeze.
We’ve already got a lot in there know but we do use a lot for breakfasts and puddings during the year and we have had a couple of years with a very poor crop due to late frosts. …”Be prepared”…I certainly learned something from being a brownie

Enjoy your day peeps…share those lovely smiles- I’m sure they make a difference to other people. X

              • Good morning all.

It's grey and drizzling here too this morning. I've just had a text for my brother in law. He needs to book a blood test. I've left him to sort that out. I must get special treatment. The nurse always rings me when mine are due and books them there and then over the phone.

The hairdresser is coming to cut our hair this morning. One of the jars of lemon curd is for her, she's been cutting our hair for a couple of decades and has never increased her prices. My next job is to coax Mr GF into the shower to wash his hair. The heating is on so he has no excuse!

Snoop your vintage down quilt reminded me of staying with friends once and sleeping in a feather bed. It was like getting into a cloud and waking up on a plank.

                  • Nicos I never wear my proper wellies, for the garden I wear ankle wellies if it's wet or my knackered old trainers if it's been dry( slip all on and off).
Dog walks I wear walking trainers/shoes and have walking boots for snowy weather.
I pretty much always have trainers on of some sort.

                    • Good afternoon, a wet cool day here, I think the heating will be going on tonight, temperature in the house at present is 18c so if no sun this afternoon I cant see it getting any warmer, and Nicos the shoes I wear in the garden and walking the dogs are the ones I happen to be wearing at the time, the same with clothes, but must say,I think OH gets a bit miffed for some reason, maybe she thinks I should ask her to accompany me. Had to take an elderly neighbour down to the clinic this morning as she needed to give a blood sample, she's 92 very independent and always walked up the town every day for her paper etc. unfortunately she had a fall on Saturday and has now lost her confidence, though hopefully with a bit of encouragement she will regain it, time will tell.
Had the garden club last night, where the subject was creating bonsai, which I found very interesting, though some of the years quoted to get some of the forms might be, for some of us a bit optimistic to try it, however after the presentation we have a cuppa, biscuits and of course for the women a blether while the men discuss some issues , one of the members pointed out that this is one of the things missing from everyday life, a chance for folks to sit and talk to one another, as both he and I worked at the furnaces, he said there was always people about to talk to, nowadays it's send a text, seldom face to face, sadly life has changed and not necessarily for the better, however you can always cheer folk up by passing on your smiles, so keep smiling and pass them on

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • You just made me smile Rary- thank you x

We’ve had a couple of really heavy rain and wind attacks….so many plums, pears, mirabelles and apples are now on the floor. I’ll go and collect them when it clears up a bit more.
I wouldn’t want to be crossing the Channel in this wind!….is it the tail end of American hurricane?
I spent the afternoon repairing 3 pairs of OH’s cut off jeans- ones he uses for gardening and painting in the summer. It’s taken me literally hours and they look rubbish…. Better than seeing expanses of his underpants though
Pity they don’t have a funny creation section in the Sewing Bee competition…hands down I would have won a prize.

I think I fancy a brew…anyone care to join me? I actually fancy some cake tbh but I’ve opened some ginger and lemon shortbreads if you care to try them?

                          • Afternoon all.

I'll pass on the tea too, Nicos, I've just finished a whole pot of lemon green tea and firmly resisted having some cake to soak it up. 😇

Did agrory hop early this morning, just as the rain was petering out, the middle of the day was fine, but it's raining heavily again now, hopefully briefly, though I can almost hear my lawn gasping with relief. The only green on it is the dandelion and hawkbit leaves.

Went for a dental checkup mid morning, and decided finally to have a tooth root removed. The top of the tooth crumbled gradually over several years after having a root filling, and it's never been a bother but its time has come! Well, not till October.

Going to test drive a new car tomorrow, my 16yo motor needs pensioning off, preferably before winter.

                              • Good evening all.

We have had rain on and off all day, but not heavy and continuous, which is what we need.

Nicos, maybe you should start a thread about unsuitable 'allotment attire'. I always wore totally unsuitable sandals in Summer and rubberised ankle boots in winter. I did keep a pair of wellies in the shed but they just became a home for spiders.

The thought of crossing the channel in bad weather is making me feel ill. Thank heavens for 'the tunnel'.

Anybody who needs cake there are two banana loaves on my worktop that should now be going sticky. Flo, how can you only eat 2 chocolate digestives? There are 2 reasons that I don't buy them anymore.

1: If they taste as they should I cannot stop until the packet is empty.

2: If they are a new healthier option they might as well go straight in the bin.

Rary, I know what you mean about face to face chatting but, for some lonely folk, texts and emails are much better than nothing.

These days I am that annoying person who will interupt other peoples conversations. Yesterday, while queueing at reception at the doctor's, two elderly men (probably about my age) were bemoaning the fact that they couldn't do much with their smartphones. I told them to enlist a 10 year old. As they were saying that they didn't have one a lady behind them in the queue told them that in exchange for a burger or ice cream, her youngsters would be more than happy to help.
