  • Morninn n’alln’all

Up before the larks again I think Hibou is thoroughly enjoying being up and about before the temperatures soar.
I have explained that the worst of the heatwave is over….but, although multilinguinal, she does seem to be able to turn a deaf ear
I can’t be the only pet owner surely with this behaviour in hot weather?

Carrie…deffo chase them up as Snoop suggests…and send them copies of the emails you sent the site manager. You won’t be in his good books for doing that, but it doesn’t sound like he’s doing his job properly.
Try one more email to him forewarning him of your action as he’s leaving you little choice. Not as a threat, but it might just spur him into action? Maybe it’s not the only plot with it? Maybe he’s worried the council might close the whole site down due to hazardous material…
    He may have his reasons…

All good here Carrie. Keeping very busy preparing for the start of the tourist season on Saturday. Hibou has been very poorly but seems to be fighting back. So all good now the heatwave is past it’s peak -thanks

Today…a few more domestics, a grory hop , than I’ll be attacking the borders…lots of deadheading and collecting seeds. Mostly oxeye daisies and aquilegia. Been a very good year for them!
OH wants to go up the ladders to try and get more black cherries, so I guess I’ll be helping him. I did suggest I ask Rary to come and help as he’s such an expert with ladders…

Anyone fancy a brew? there’s plenty in the pot

Right…let’s see if I can get back to the land of nod

    • MH…lovely to hear about your local birds. Must be lovely to watch them. Our neighbour has had jackdaw nesting in his chimney for several years now.
They caused a chimney fire a few years ago. They still come each year though so I guess the neighbour isn’t using that chimney , nor blocked it off from them

Flo…te he…how did you get on with two dogs? Hope they weren’t too much of a handful? It’s always lovely watching dogs play together and working out from their body language as to which of the two is the dominant one.
Is that going to be a regular thing or was it just a one-off?
I can imagine Lord Ginger wasn’t too impressed

      • Morning all.

Hot but cloudy, so quite muggy. Storm forecast for this afternoon but not much rain if any to speak of.

I'm exhausted and I haven't even really started the day. Mr Snoop has gone up the valley to help our friend, so I've been looking after Jack. He has at last conked out, after two hours of mayhem. I could do with going back to bed after all that. There's a lot to be said for two dogs at the same time. They could wear each other out instead of me! How did you get on with Frank and Harley, Flo?

And how are you doing, LD? On the mend, I hope.

Right, I've got a ton of stuff to get through before the weekend, so better shake a leg.

        Have a great day, everyone.

        • Morning all.

Nice to see you back Carrie. I agree with the others about the asbestos. Email the council as a matter of urgency, and if you get no satisfaction, I would up the game and email the local newspapers too.

The big news here is that the top of my local hill was on fire through the night. The fire brigade was called at about 8.15pm, and were still damping down at 7am today. Apparently they started with two tenders then as the wind picked up in the night, sent for another. There is a lot of gorse and that is chiefly what was ablaze. Being a granite hill the soil fortunately is fairly thin. My guess is a portable barbecue started it, someone fairly regularly leaves the remains of one up there, often tossed into the undergrowth and leaving a burned patch of grass. There is plenty of exposed bare, reasonably flat rock up there that they could put the darn things on, but no, on the grass it must go. Cheers and thanks to our fantastic firefighters.

Another hot one here apparently we have rain due this evening.
Yesterday was a mix of shopping, gardening and visiting so today it'll be probably domestics.

            enjoy your day

            • Good Morning All Warm but dull here. It was easier with two dogs Bren, they played together, so Frank was less demanding. Lord Ginger didn't reappear until well after they'd gone. Jack sounds a handful Snoop what fun. Have a good day

              • Good morning all.

We're still in my Goldilocks zone here. Max 21°C, and maybe a shower this evening.

I've already had my complaint of the day, to a well-known high street chain who I ordered flowers from for my sister's birthday last week. The quality was dire. They arrived looking half dead and went downhill. She will hopefully be receiving a replacement bunch tomorrow.

Mothhawk, it constantly amazes me that people can be so careless with fire. Whatever penalties there are, they obviously are no deterrent.

Carrie, I hope that you get a result from the council. Asbestos is not to be messed with. Your site manager needs a rocket attaching to a certain part of his anatomy. Take lots of photos, warn him that you intend going over his head, and then do so. The trouble then, with most council staff, seems to be actually getting them to leave their offices and DO something instead of just having endless, pointless meetings, sending emails and covering their a***s.

I need to call at the chemist's later today as they have more prescriptions for us. I might call and visit my brother in law too. I have ascertained that he was exaggerating when he said the only thing that his carers do is make him a cup of tea. They do actually do slightly more than that.

                Time for more coffee now.

Well, we didn't get any of that heat and it's just 15 degs this morning with rain on the way,
Reading about all your dogs antics reminds of my daughters dog who passed just two weeks ago...she is heartbroken,
Domestics and a grory hop this morning.
A spell in the garden if the rain holds off
Our lovely grandson is 7 today so we are going to his tea party this evening.
That's the day pretty much spoken for.
Stay cool in the sun and have a good day.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                  • Good evening,

He is apparently away(How convenient) So he has got until Monday evening and if not then I will be going straight to his boss. And id also be getting in touch with environmental agency.

I will be going down this weekend so I will try and take some photos. I have proof of the previous allotment holder who had it before me saying there is asbestos on there.

Thank you everyone I will keep you all updated.

                      • Mornin n’alln’all

                        Gosh…and it’s weekend again…that arrived rather quickly!
At least this one for me is very much cooler than last weekend

Hibou had a bit of a lie-in this morning so has only just gone out. I’d put down fresh water and food and she went straight to the bowl of water I’d put out for the wildlife …she did however have a good sniff around some wonder what’s been visiting it?…Tomcat, fox, hedgehog….?

I have a small amount of domestics to do first thing then I’m hoping for a day in the garden. I didn’t get any deadheading and seed collecting done yesterday, so that really needs attention..plus more gravel weeding.

Whats everyone up to this weekend? Anything exciting?
I’m looking forward to chatting with my granddaughter- she went to see a Dinosaur exhibition yesterday so I’m hoping she really enjoyed it! I’m very interested in fossiling and prehistory , so I’m hoping she shares a similar interest so we have something else to chat about.

Lottie…I keep thinking about you. Have your antibiotics started making a difference yet?

                        Enjoy your day peeps

                        • Morning all.

Great night out last night. A bit sluggish this morning but I think that's more to do with the weather - a really warm night and very muggy this morning - than excess consumption.

Even though I've only been up a couple of hours, top of my list for today is a long nap. Plus work and domestics. Ideally I'd make some bread but realistically I'm not sure that'll happen.

Dreadful story about the fire, mothhawk. Hope whoever was responsible learns from it at least.

                          Have a great day, everyone.

                          • Sorry…MH…I meant to ask if there was a lot of damage after the fire?
That gorse was home to wildlife…some not able to move quickly away from the fire.
Cant believe how selfish/ thoughtless/ thick some people can be

I've got a couple of jigsaw puzzles to take to the charity shop, and I'll probably come back with another they do seem to always have a good selection.
