  • Nicos, no, not curtains for indoors..They were outdoor, over your hall door to prevent the paint from blistering in the sun.
Some of them were made of the old type of deckchair material.
I have just googled but got no results It has just brought home to me how old I am....😀😀

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

    • Afternoon all.

There's bit of a nip in the wind that's making the sunshine very pleasant to be out in, and I had to force myself to come in out of the garden so I don't burn. Very fair skinned, me, I freckle and burn even with SPF30.

Did a grory hop this morning, and nipped into WHS for two big jiffy envelopes to send a load of photos abroad. They were £3.75 each, or three for £5. Well that was a no-brainer - I bought three! I found my old fountain pen this week, so I bought a bottle of quink too (anyone remember that from school?) I was a bit shocked at the price though, £10.55. it was lovely to fill up the pen and use it though. I'd forgotten how nice fountain pens are to use.

      • Lottie, that sounds like my kind of holiday. Much as I love cooking and baking generally ....not on holiday. I hope you have a great relaxing time.

I bought Mr messy GF a new machine washable rug for his side of the bed a couple of weeks ago. I was really happy with the colour and look of it. Today I decided to give it a wash. I wasn't convinced that it would spin well and thought it might end up taking a couple of days to dry. Amazingly it came out of the washer nearly dry and looking just like brand new again. I'm so impressed I've ordered another for my side of the bed.

It's much cooler today here and overcast with a strong breeze. It's going down to 7°C tonight. I think the heating will be going on again shortly.

        It's on!

        • That's a coincidence MH. I have been asked to write a letter to the Bride (her youngest sister is compiling a folder of letters from family and close friends as a surprise), so I've been searching for my fountain pen and Quink without success. It didn't seem the same handwriting it in biro!

          • Not old bramble…just different local traditions!

One local tradition here which always makes me chuckle is people hanging their bedding out of their bedroom windows in the morning!
It does make sense to let it air in all honesty, but it still makes me chuckle!
I do , however , leave my bedroom window open in the morning - weather permitting , and turn back the duvet etc - so not quite as extreme….

Having weeded until I dropped, OH made a lovely BBQ for us. As soon as I sat down, the rain and thunder started. So I just sat it out!…very refreshing

Anyone up for exchanging body parts for a few hours?…I can spare a rubbish back and wrists with happy feet and tingly sunburnt face?

            • Nicos, re: the hanging out of the bedding. The first time that I ever came across it was when I was lucky enough to go to Austria on a school skiing trip in the early 70s. We were packed like sardines into rooms in our pension in the Tirol, but every morning, our Continental quilts were aired on the balcony rails. The holiday was something that I and my friends will never forget. It was amazing. This was even more amazing considering that I had a father who thought civilisation ended at Dover and that all non-english food was "foreign muckment", and a mother who was really upset that I chose to learn German at school.

              • Good morning.

It's very quiet. Where is everyone? Still in bed? You are so lucky.
Mr GF has been up and about, making lots of noise and being exceedingly annoying since before 7am.

It's grey, cool and windy today, but only a 2% chance of rain.

I've got another grory hop arriving between 10am and 11am. I actually managed not to order any more milk. I'm sure 12 pints will be plenty to last us until next Tuesday morning.

                • Morning GF, morning all.

It's true, I haven't been up long. Mr Snoop brought me an early morning cup of fruit tea and then let me go back to the land of nod. Just as well I don't mind fruit tea cold.

Very cloudy out, so it looks like the rain will come as promised, just a bit more than the weather folk said if the colour of the clouds is anything to go by.

Really enjoyed my day off yesterday. I managed to resist making a cake, which doubtless we will all be sorry about today. But never mind. In fact, I somehow managed to resist doing anything much at all. A proper lazy day. The one good thing I did was tell the client that sends me the work I like least that I'm retiring at the end of the year, so they'd better think about finding someone else. With any luck, the amount of garbage I get will now start to decline. What a relief that will be.

I reckon I must have hogged the smiles a bit yesterday. Sorry about that. Hope they're doing the rounds as per usual again.

                  Have a great day, everyone.

                        • Morning. It’s a sunny 17°. Waiting for a delivery of a new whirlie as ours halved in two during the storm. Making do with clothes horses just now but having to tumble dry bedding and towels. Ordered on Sunday and still not on the way. Very annoying.
Anyhoo that’s my moan for the day. Have a good one folks. x

                          • Afternoon n’alln’all

Sorry - I almost overslept for an appointment this morning!…hence not checking in.

Afterwards we headed to market and bought some veggie plants.
My guest veg this year will be sweet potato!…I tried growing slips a few times without success so I’m hoping this plant is established enough for it to survive my ignorance.

Some flower plugs somehow jumped into our bags too.
We treated ourselves to mussels and welks which we’ll have tomorrow.

On the way home we bought more seed compost and a selection of breads and breakfast pastries to freeze. Strangely the croissants never even made it home!

We did actually buy the paint. But do please sit down for this…cos we almost fell over sideways..
The pot we bought in 2020 was 100€…..the exact same tin today ( 2.5 litres) was 150 € You’d expect gold flakes in it for that wouldn’t you?

So , it’s been a really busy morning, which was good as I set off with my scalf, and thick jumper under my winter coat, mexpecting it to rain.By the time we came home it was lovely and warm!…perfect for more outdoor work then

Glad you had a good day Snoop- always good to have a bit of time to yourself to recharge your batteries.

Enjoy the rest of the day peeps..I think I might just need 40 winks…

                            • 'Afternoon all.

My fridge is now looking very full. I've just eventually been down to my mechanics and had my new car battery fitted. The joy of turning the ignition key and the car starting first time.

I've recharged the jump starter and it can now live in the car boot for emergencies or to use as a torch or power bank.

Nicos, that paint sounds expensive. I would definitely want gold flakes. I was quite pleased with the price of my battery and it has a 4 year guarantee.

If you want more sweet potato plants, if you take cuttings from it, I've found that they root easily in a jam jar of water.

It feels cold here, there's a sneaky wind and no sign of the sun. The heating is on. What happened to Spring?
