        • Bit of aa mixed bag weather wize here today. Nothing to write home about this morning but this afternoon has turned out lovely and sunny.

Going to give the veg patch a rest over the winter as i will probably give it a bit of a rebuild around the edges etc. (provided we dont move that is! but then, we would need to actually find a house to move to first!

Productive day at allotment yesterday. Lifted my Golden Bear onions and was impressed! Covered beds with cardboard and then a thick layer of hay that I had cut from my mini wildflower meadow. Its just a trial at sticking with no-dig. I can't afford to keep buying compost to add after every crop is harvested and I don't make enough of my own. I had toyed with the idea of stripping off a couple of inches of soil, laying cardboard then putting soil back. This wouldn't really be no-dig then, so went with hay which I had to get rid of anyway.
For me, gardening is all about experimentation and you ar never to old to learn. No idea what I am planting through the hay yet though?

                      • morning all. Just back from taking the motor for its MOT and service. I've not used it much so hope it passes OK. It's getting on a bit now. In honour of having an MOT today, yesterday it had a thorough bi-annual clean, dust, wax and polish. It gets the other round about Xmas time if the weather is clement.

I'm fairly sure that it's only because men love playing about with their cars so much that nobody has yet invented a self-cleaning car.

Snadge, you don't have to add compost to no-dig every time you clear a crop as long as you rotate crops. Do you add it every time you dig? If you have compost then yes, use it, the soil benefits, of course, as would a dug bed.

                          • As the Spanish would say, Mr Bones, you are in your sauce (meaning in your element). Hope you're having a jolly morning, boneos or no boneos.

Hope you manage to see some improvement in your shoulder, Jay. Painful and frustrating.

Started off a bit cloudy again but the sun is now beating down on us. Temperatures on the rise today. Now I've walked the dogs and watered the garden, I'll be staying indoors and drinking water. Actually, that reminds me, I do need to go and pick a couple of courgettes. One pollinated, two to pick. Wouldn't mind that kind of ratio for the next week or so. Counted the butternuts: six definitely growing, one a possible. Result!

Right, on that note, I'd better get on with work. So tedious. Roll on retirement.

Have a good day, everyone. Smiles took advantage of the early cool temperatures and most of them set off at a fair lick. Must easily be over your places now. Some still lingering in the hope I'll make biscuits. Fat chance. I've told them to hang around Nicos's ginger cake tin. You might spot them there.

                            • Morning All,

Lovely morning here, nice and bright and sunny.

It my little boys birthday so we have been opening presents and cards this morning. I'm just trying to work out how early is acceptable to start demolishing birthday cake!

                              Happy Wednesday all!

                              • Morning all! Greyish here, but not raining.

I hope physio sorts out your shoulder Jay. When I had one it only got better when the doctor threatened it with a steroid injection after weeks and weeks of physio. (A bit like 40 years ago when he told me that he was sending me to have my tonsils removed if I got tonsillitis yet again- touch wood never had it since).

The sun has just peeked out. Maybe things are improving.
