It must be a while since you last had an egg custard. I remember complaints in our local bakery back in the UK when the rule came in that egg custards had to be refrigerated. And that's over thirty years ago now.Originally posted by Mark Rand View PostToday was chilli (Scotch bonnet diluted with Chilhuacle Negro) and chips.
Tomorrow's lunch with the kids will be bœuf bourguignon for my 67th birthday. I fancied egg custard tarts when I went to Sainsbury's on Friday but couldn't find them. It turns out that both Sainsbury's and Tesco have them in the 'chilled' section. Might pop out and get some as a treat.
Hope you have a lovely lunch with your family.
As for us, it's lunch down the valley so I doubt we'll want much if anything at all this evening. My contribution to lunch: some sourdough rolls, a focaccia and a Tarta de Santiago (kind of flat cake made with almond flour rather than wheat flour). Better get baking...

Last night was leftover roast chicken, leftover couscous and roast veg, spicy potato wedges and a salad. Mr GF wanted to know where the corn on the cob was!
Black Forest trifle.
I think omelette tonight, either cheese and/or mushroom we'll have it with new potatoes, corn on the cob and peas.
More trifle.

Last night was lamb kebabs and a salad
Followed by strawberries!
I bought a small punnet of Gariguette strawberries at a stupid price but they were absolutely delicious!
Tonight is chicken breast with our own purple kale and cavelo Nero with sweet potato. Might make a mushroom sauce to go with that.

I just thought I'd mention that I didn't find it too difficult to spatchcock the chicken, this weekend, with a knife, but while I was doing it I was thinking, "A decent pair of secateurs would make this so easy". The chicken cooked very quickly and was very moist. The skin wasn't as crispy as usual, probably because of the shorter cooking time but I soon rectified that with my blowtorch.
