Plant cauliflowers if arrive - done 8 and potted up 8

I now have workmen here this afternoon and tomorrow, trying to sort out a damp patch of concrete floor. I don't know how long they will be here or what they will have to do until they take up the flooring, and I won't be able to leave the house while they are here. I may also not have access to the back garden until the damp proofing dries, which could be upto a day after they put it down. They won't be able to do that if the concrete is wet until it has dried out. So basically I have no idea when I will next be able to get in the garden or to the allotment!

As expected this week was a write-off for gardening with no time followed by inclement weather. We didn't actually get much snow, and although I have been a bit busy today I'm hopeful of getting some gardening done tomorrow. I did manage to harvest salad leaves and carrots, both of which are grown at home and therefore available to grab quickly.

    Weekend jobs

    At my friend's
    Weeding - no

    At allotment
Put cover back over romanesco (cold weather incoming) - done
    Weed hotbed - done some
Harvest romanesco, possibly spinach - done plus a parsnip

Also tidied up the remaining strawberry plants and removed a couple of dead romanesco plants.

    At home
Paint arch if possible - done
    Weeding - no
    Tidy up - no
Harvest salad leaves, carrots - done

Tomorrow to Wednesday I am having an air to air heat pump installed which means I will have to be at home. It will probably be too cold and possibly too snowy for gardening anyway.

Not a lot of gardening time today either, although I did plant out the oldest set of Meteor peas (under a plastic cover) and harvested carrots and a few small calabrese shoots.

Hi. Well today I found my boxes of seeds. Some are very out of date. But I am hoping to have enough viable seed and not buy any more. So I have started some off in damp tissue to see if they will do anything.
Yesterday, I shifted my bags of leaves into 3 darlek type compost bins, and shared the contents of the large bin between the three - chicken house straw and droppings. Mr Busy emptied all the compost out for his rose garden and so I have empty bins but there is a lot of beech leaves just waiting to be collected and composted - I saw an article about composting leaves with animal manure and urine (!) and results in 6 months - giving it a go.

    Pot up lettuces
    Sow parsley, chervil

Also spent some time putting nets over buckets of sieved compost waiting for carrots and other stored buckets of compost. The neighbour's new cat has taken to leaving me unwanted "presents" - on Tuesday it was half a baby rabbit, yesterday I found diarrhoea in 2 of my compost buckets - not what I want when I am going to use them to grow food!
