Today's job was to make the hotbed, which took me all morning, but is now done and should be ready for sowing in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow looks very wet indeed and will probably be a complete write-off, which might give my back a chance to recover!

Unfortunately the weather this morning looks appalling and I am busy with family stuff and work for the remainder of the weekend, so I am unlikely to get any gardening done at all.

First opportunity to get in the garden for 10 days today, having only managed to walk round and check and harvest a few carrots from the (part frozen) buckets in the garage and some lettuce and microgreens and a couple of tomatoes and peppers from the house during the freeze. I couldn't even sow any microgreens because the compost was frozen. Thankfully the water barrels don't appear to have cracked but I am not sure of the state of the stored potatoes in the garage as the paper bags look a bit damp.

Surprisingly it didn't seem too cold today and I managed to get to the allotment and cut down the runner beans. Everywhere is frozen solid, including in the greenhouse. Not expecting to be able to do anything much in the garden for the next week or so, but if I can the next job is to cut down the remainder of the cosmos, which has been well and truly killed by the frost.

Wednesday jobs
Cut down more dead plants - no
Weeding if ground defrosted - no
General tidy up - no
Harvest leeks, carrots, baby fennel - done
Far too cold to do any gardening yesterday and that looks to be the case for the foreseeable future. I will be back when I can actually do something, until then it will just be planning for next year.
