Thanks for your concern all

I had a nosey at the other seed saving circle as well and I think you are right about quantities of seed needed to save from what I have read. I only have a garden to grow in, so will probably only be growing 6 or so cherokee plants at all, and am thinking I was a bit overzealous to think I could provide enough for the circle, when I dont even know if I can provide enough for myself yet!!

I also dont want to look like I am just in the circle to take other people's seeds and not put an equal amount at least, back in myself.

Sorry to butt in; but the idea isn't to supply everyone with loads; but with a few to grow on next year.

I am growing 45 new beans this year, all of which were swaps on here with a Grape and we swapped 8 of each of our types of beans - that's going to be ample for me to grow on this year to have and to swap with others.....

I think it has all been said before, a few seeds to give to each member so that they can grow on the next season etc.
Please do not drop out of the group we know that you are not here to just get seeds without giving any back, because of how concerned you are.

Hi Thea,

The chillies sound good, I'm not particular about the variety. If you want to offer only a few cherokee trail of tears seeds, that's absolutely fine. I'm not at all an expert on beans, but kiwirach mentions a dwarf bean plant per person, whereas the cherokee tot is a tall climbing bean, so should produce more seeds per plant. Alternatively, feel free to send me a PM to discuss which of the things you're growing produce more seeds per plant.

thanks everyone for the support, if its still ok, I WILL stay in the circle - although, if for some unknown reason, I dont have any seeds to offer (ie crop fail etc) then I would not feel right about taking others seeds, (just the way I am) so will respectfully withdraw from it then...hope thats ok

oh dear!. i've had a bit of a set back......the frost last week killed all 15 of my bean plants!. i had moved them up to the lottie, unaware there was killer frosts on the way. read everyone on here saying what they'd lost and didnt even think about me. went up yesterday to find sad beans and sad toms. :-(
i've got more on the go, and will replace this tray this week...thankfully theres still enough time, but a pain none the less!.

Hi guys, not been on much recently but lots been going on at work, allotment and garden as i am sure many of you are in the same situation, but to give you an update. The Ruth Bible Pole beans are doing well over the lottie, now, maybe i shouldnt but as they are drying beans, i am trying a 3 sisters bed again growing the pole beans up my sweetcorn and so far they all look happy together. 12 beans have germinated and i am hoping to have 10 plants for the seed circle and 2 plants for me for use and seed saving. lets cross fingers that it keeps on going well.

Just an update: all my chillis are doing well, producing lovely little ones, (I am hand pollinating to insure no crosses) At the mo the Bolivian looks in the lead.
The cherokee are still quite small - I have sown two additional plants for seed saving - so fingers crossed.

Just wondering, after looking at the other seed saving circle, how everyone is getting on?
My update: I have quite a few bolivian rainbow chillis, so no problem with seed saving them.
Cherokees seem ok - have reached the top of the poles, but no flowers so far.....

Golden plums tomatoes outside now very bushy, I cut off a lot of the leaves to allow greater airflow in case of the Dreaded You Know What... 10 or so fruits have set so far per plant, lots more flowers but they are much behind all my other toms planted at the same time (same with the ones in the greenhouse too). But they are not hard work as there's no pinching out to be done. No signs of pests or disease (so far). They are a much lighter, brighter green than the other toms!

Carruthers Pea are now 5-6ft high on a bamboo teepee and are SMOTHERED in mange tout size purple pods with many bulking out into proper peas. Taste is good as a mange tout but the adult peas are not as sweet as others I'm growing- if I wasn't saving for seeds I would eat as mange tout. But they might be good as dried peas? Impressive plants and the largest of all the peas I'm growing - give them lots of room! No signs of pests or disease (so far) I will have lots to share!
