Sounds familiar. It's in a clump of approximately 5 ft (1.5 m) x 5 ft (1.5 m). Thankfully seems easy to dig out unlike what I think was ribbon grass elsewhere on the plot.

Interesting, thanks. There are day lilies at least elsewhere on the plot. I've left 9 in, so we'll get a confirmation at some point in the summer.

Yeah, doesn't look like day lilies, look like real lilies. A bit early in the year for them, maybe but definitely some kind of bulb.

            Hi all,

Plant 12 now looks like this

I was also wondering if anyone recognizes this

            18. I can't find the photo at the moment, but I think there was a tall plant with this type of reddish/purple foliage that had yellow flowers last year.

And for those who are interested, the ornamental grass that tricked me with its seed heads has been removed. Fingers crossed it doesn't magically reappear. Thanks for your help with identifying it. I would have lost another growing season on that patch otherwise, waiting for a non-existent flower to appear...

Thanks, VC. I thought 12 looked increasingly like a euphorbia, but I think a lot of things look like that Not to be trusted.

That seems like a good match for 18. There are loads of the little seedlings, so I wonder if it's a big self-seeder or the previous tenant was a big fan.

If it is that Lysimachia they seem to spread through their roots - mine did anyway. Not sure about the seedlings but its a nice plant, IMO.

If it's a euphorbia it should have milky sap.

Thanks, boatsman. Very good to know.

As for spreading through the roots, that seems to be the name of the game on my plot. It was very nice and unusual compared to the sea of green, so I look forward to it this year.

Beware of letting the sap touch your skin - its an irritant.

With my thanks to the plant IDers, a photo of plant 2. Sorry it's blurry - it was a bit breezy this evening.

You were right from the beginning I look forward to the sedums. The euphorbia is already looking bright and cheery. Maybe I should make an album.
