My sweetpeas have buds on them already.
They have been planted outdoors now for several weeks.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Teo sweetpeas in blossom, purple and pink.
Planted these out in early March.

          How embarrassing is this?
Having started this thread, my seeds were eaten and I had no sweet peas to plant out. Bramble's are in flower and all I have to show are some seedlings I bought today.......
Goodness knows what sort they are - the label says Mixed!!!

I set some sweet peas off in the greenhouse before xmas and they have grown. I planted them out a couple of weeks ago because they were flowering. The amazing thing is a few "wild" sweet pea plants have come up on there own outside. They have got buds on and are far stronger looking than the ones I've grown in the greenhouse.

Sweet peas are much hardier than most people think, and in my experience as long as the ground is not frozen do better when planted out early in the year.

I agree with Nick. I sowed mine in October in rootrainers, they stood outside all winter, I planted them out in a mild spell in February and got the first flowers this week on nice strong plants.

My sweet peas are starting to come back after they were decimated in the hailstorm we had 3 weeks ago.

Quick update - my plants are now about 2' high, and are therefore mostly above the weeds :-) - they have some buds on them, so as long as they keep going I should get some flowers - the soil is on the dry side, I'll wait a bit and see if we get rain, if not it will have to be the hose pipe.

The rain we had meant there was no need to water - and now the flowers are opening, going to be mostly pink and white ones by the look of it.

Yep .... lovely long stems - but of course they get shorter and shorter as the season progresses.
I shall end up with two inch stems instead of fourteen inch stems.
But what the hell- they still smell fab even if only long enough to go in an egg cup.
