The gov't has deliberately hyped this situation, and deliberately triggered panic buying and chaos, so that if the unions do end up going on strike, everyone will be too pissed off with them to peer very closely into why they're going on strike. Plus, of course, all the chaos takes attention nicely away from Cash4Cameron and all the other sh!tty stuff they've been up to lately.

Personally, I'd rather walk 5 miles into town than play their mind-control-of-the-masses game.

I got some thursday because I was empty, got my usual amount, had to queue at the thrid petrol station because two were empty. There was only one pump, three cars in front of me and about 6 by the time I'd been there for 2 minutes. The first car filling up was a range rover, he filled the taznk completely up, you could see the back end sinking down.
Then a van put about 20 quid in, then the car in front me couldnt put any in because the diesel spout wouldnt fit in his car....the bloke behind me was out of his car demanding to use the pump because he was going abroad tomorrow so he really needed it and his need was greater obviously...
I put my usual in [20 quid] then as I came back form paying, having pulled my car forward so he could have at the pump, I heard him shouting 'why has it stopped!!!???' and I had a very small and nasty laugh to myself.....

A little petrol station in the next street to me still seems to have plenty of petrol and diesel. Not surprising there's no queues there - yesterday they were charging £1.52p for diesel and £1.47p for petrol! Everywhere else is either out (diesel) or has long queues.

I have just under half a tank which will last me at least one week maybe two if I'm careful so am in no hurry to fill up.

Hope you find somewhere reasonable to fill up before you start your new job Chris.

Thanks LL. The local one near me had the signs all out, over the pumps saying out of fuel bar 1 unleaded pump - managed to put some petrol in (decided against filling to the brim, incase anyone else behind me needed to fill up and I'd taken the last lot). When I went to pay, the lady running the station was telling me that any moment now they'd be completely out of fuel, with no deliveries until weds - they're trying to push it forward to monday!

She said I was the only one that put so little, everyone else were paying for full tanks!

            We're a selfish race, hey?

I managed to find fuel yesterday - 3rd station I went to. I had just enough left in to maybe get me home (on fumes). Unfortunately, the nearest petrol station to my house is 10miles away, so I always have to fill up before going home (IYSWIM).

I put in £30, which is about normal for me.... I had to queue for 30mins to get that, and had the pleasant view of a guy in some sort of 4x4 fill his car tank up, then proceed to fill up 7 smaller petrol cans (like you have for the lawnmower type of thing) and put them in his boot....

I was tempted to get out and give him a piece of my mind, but I didn't have to - 3 other people decided to instead. It all got quite heated. I just turned my radio up and waited for my turn....

4 of the local petrol stations are still empty though...

I'm ashamed to be a Yorkshireman. I still need fuel but the idiots are still queuing for it, I refuse to join the queues. I'll walk instead.

I've cycled all week (I always do unless I'm carrying lots of heavy gear). I've got half a tank, but I'll make that last until the price comes back down again.

Does anyone know if diesel is in as short supply as petrol please? Haven't been anywhere near a patrol station for a week and haven't seen the queues etc.

And here's the proof. A leaked memo.

The message reportedly continues: "In order to defeat the coming miners' strike, [Thatcher] stockpiled coal. When the strike came, she weathered it, and the Labour party, tarred by the strike, was humiliated. In order to defeat the coming fuel drivers' strike, we want supplies of petrol stockpiled. Then, if the strike comes, we will weather it, and Labour, in hock to the Unite union, will be blamed."

Of course it's good to see the Guardian holding its socialist values close. They're all as bad as each other but I still maintain that the mindless sheep should stop helping the politicians by causing this mayhem.

I've heard that a woman in Norfolk has used up all the yeast in her wine making. There's not enough for bread making and the government have trebled the yeast prices! QUICK there may be a bread crisis! Stockpile!!!!

I was in a panic when I got some just now, but only because my three closest were empty, I'm on the red and have a friends out of town party to go to tomorrow and then work on \Monday.

I shall try cycling in on Tuesday as I won't have the kiddies so can leave earlier. If it can be done in twenty minutes then I shall cycle everyday.
