  • Confessional

Forgive me farmer for I have sinned. It has been some time since my last confession.

I have been unfaithful to my plot, and have been having unclean thoughts - filthy ones in fact.

I have not visited the plot since last year, and I am fearful that she will turn against me.

I have been intimate with another garden closer to home, and have tended its bushes.

I beg forgiveness and promise to attend to the plot in earnest at some time soon.

I too have to confess...I have neglected my duty to care for my garden over the winter months. As I look out of my kitchen window I have straggly mint that needs a trim, dead bits hanging off mi chives. And the deadly sin of a fungi old tomato plant in the blow away. I shall hang my head in shame....

I think my sin is greater than thine - I have 2 utterly neglected plots, 3 greenhouses still full of dead plants, and 2 gardens at home desperate for a clear-up. My neighbours are moaning about me because this neglect extends to a mahoosive prairie grass next to the front wall which pokes people in the eye as they walk past I have scrubbed no pots, cleaned out no propagators or seed trays and sown no seeds.

I fear my penance will be to work my ass off for the next 5 months...

Relaxing !!!!!!!! What's relaxing about it? You sow your seeds then peer anxiously every few minutes to see if they've germinated. Once they're up it's have they got enough light, have they got enough water , do they need a bigger pot , are they safe from predators..........

I've not been up much this year as I was ill over Christmas / New Year and then it rained all this weekend when I'd thought I might do a bit of clearing. Was thinking yesterday that I'd managed to do a lot more in the autumn before last winter so was in a better state at this time last year but the weather was so awful that everything was frozen solid so there wasn't much I could have done.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
