Cinema Vs DVD....

So what's your preference? Would you rather go to the cinema these days or put your feet up and watch a DVD at home?
Why?
I'll start the ball rolling
When I was little going to the pictures (as we called them) was a real treat. Obviously it was before the days of internet booking and often we had to arrive at the cinema ridiculously early to get a seat.
These days, I find that most films are not my choice, and if there is something on I'd like to see, its gone before I can get there. Also the cost of going to the cinema works out at over �20 for all of us, so not a cheap option.
Therefore I generally wait for DVD release, or rather, about 6 months afterwards to get the DVD at around �5-7, watch it with a glass of wine or some nibbles etc.
The only time I would rather go to the cinema is if its a 3D kids film.

Definitely DVD for me.
I get pretty bored watching a whole film and need to pause it several times for drinks,loo breaks and just to strertch my legs a little.
We went to see Up the other week and although it was an excellent film half way through I just needed a walkabout.ad a really numb bum and was just plain uncomfortable.(Bet the people behind me loved how fidgety I was)

Before that I think the last proper film I went to see was a Mission Impossible one...I caught the first five minutes...had a little nap and then woke five minutes before the end.So Andi kind of agrees that it's a bit of a waste of money taking me.

Last film we saw at the cinema was The Mask in 1994 I like to watch a film in peace with loo and drinks breaks on my own comfy sofa, so its a DVD for me every time.

Definitely a DVD. I find that I can't sit still long enough to sit through a whole film, so the cinema is an ordeal. Also it's so expensive!

I do sometimes go to our Senior Screening (over 60's) on a Monday lunchtime at the cinema if the weather is naff, then I take sandwiches to go with the free coffee and biscuits you get for your �3 ticket. And then if I get bored, I don't feel so bad about walking out.

Usually I wait until the film I really want to see is out on DVD and then watch for it on Ebay. If I wait awhile I can usually buy it for about �3 or �4 max.

I don't feel I have to see a film as soon as it comes out - just as well!

Occasionally, we'll go and see a film at the cinema, but it has to be on a 'Bargain Tuesday', during termtime and in the middle of the day, and we take a packet of Jaffa cakes up our coat sleeves. I think the last film I saw at the cinema was 'Sex in the City' with the girls from work.

I'd much rather watch a DVD at home with glass of wine, a bag of Wine Gums and a snuggly blanket!!

DVD. I like to have wee breaks and be comfy at home. We have a screen and projector so it's like being at the cinema with the comforts of home, at a fraction of the price.
Plus OH can't bear listening to people rustling and crunching so it's less stressful to stay at home!

I still think some things look better on the big screen, but with DVD quality, big widescreen TVs and decent sound systems these days it's difficult to beat the convenience & comfort of watching at home.

Definitely DVDs for me. Apart from getting a bit claustrophobic in cinemas, I like to pick the time when I want to watch the film. Often when I get home from work I think I will sit down and watch a film but a couple of hours later I'm too tired. At least with DVDs I can start watching them and finish it another day if I get too tired

Cinema does it for me. Probably something to do with the mountain of natcho's and hot cheese and jalapeno's I usually munch when i'm there!

Can be a tad expensive though so majority of films are watched on DVD or direct from download on computer!

I've only ever been to the cinema 6 times in my life! You'll laugh out loud at the diverseness of the titles! First visit was as a child and the last was in the 70s.

Watch loads of films now, but DVDs, Sky, or Pay per View and on the couch with my feet up and a glass of wine.

I used to love going to the Duke of York's in Brighton, you could have cake & coffee while you watched, really civilised.

Round here though, the cinema's are huge, unstaffed, windy affairs. You have to pay to park, pay to watch, pay to eat: �10 a head virtually.

But the worst thing is having to listen to yoofs swearing, breaking seats, throwing food ...

If I want to go to the cinema it's a 100 mile round trip (!) as Plymouth is fifty miles away!
There are not many films I'm that deperate to see, so generally it's DVD or Sky for us.

We went to see one of the Harry Potter films long after it was popular, we were the only three people in the cinema, when my daughter wanted the loo I nearly asked them to pause it so we didnt miss any lol. Daughter went to see Valentines day with her friend last week and got charged adult price so with a bag of maltesers it cost her �10, rip off. There have been a few films that I would like to see but dont have anyone to go with so I wait till it comes on the telly never mind DVD.

Forgot to say wheen we were little we used to go every saturday mattinee and it was always cowboys and indian films, i spent most of my time hiding cos I didnt like them, I think it cost 6d and at christmas it was free for the kids.
