MH I can honestly say I've never had Dorset apple cake or what it is. What makes it Dorset? Is it the type of apple?

I often make it Rary- Tis my OH’s favourite.
First time we had it was in Lyme Regis…sort of a flat round sponge with apple pieces mixed in.
My recipe probably isn’t like the real thing , but from memory I make a Victoria sponge with added vanilla, press in chunks of apple , then sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar before baking.

Its not a true recipe, but it’s our favourite.

No idea what makes it Dorset. I suppose they grow a lot of apples there. I think it was Nicos mentioned making it one time, and I thought it sounded nice, so I searched for a recipe, found Mary Berry's, made one, and yes, it was very nice! It is pretty much Victoria sponge with finely chopped apple mixed in, so it's easy to make.

I found this in Dorset dialect by Victorian Dorset poet William Barnes:

I got a little ceäke too, here, a-beäken o’n
Upon the vier. ’Tis done by this time though.
He’s nice an’ moist; vor when I wer a-meäken o’n
I stuck some bits ov apple in the dough.

Need to get a bit of cardboard shifted into my veg patch to stop the weeds from reaching to the sky but otherwise it's a flat-out work day today.

Is it only still just gone 9? I've already vacuumed and done some other domestics. I haven't managed to get much sleep, but that's nothing new.

I will go and visit my brother in law this afternoon if I manage to get some more sleep before then as I just feel so exhausted.

Yep its blue, green and red what with the roadworks, traffic hold-up's plus a one way street its quicker to walk to the supermarket.
Ham and cheese toasties are my favourites CG I have mustard with mine.

It's a proper windy one here today - OH has tried his best to add extra weight to the blow-away & tie some guy-ropes (is that what you call them) to pots as there's no other way to secure it.

Sending my thoughts & hugs to GF and all of you who I know need them atm (including some who haven't posted publicly).

Good Morning All Gusty here too. Good luck with the blowaways Andraste. Mine kept blowing away, so I had a more rigid lean to on the gable end of my house, but that's gone now, along with the raised beds!
