  • Afternoon n’alln’all

Rubbish sleep last night…so overslept this morning

Still mulling over the idea of a cycle ride this afternoon whilst there is a break in the rain. Might do some Thai Chi instead cos it’s looking cold out there and I’m feeling nesh today
I think if we’d lit the wood burner earlier it would be impossible to prise me out of my homes this afternoon.
I’ll have a brew and consider things
    Anyone care to join me?

Enjoy your day peeps as much as possible x

      • I was able to do 10 minutes weeding. It's surprising how much that little time can lift your spirits Well done Nicos!

        • Good afternoon.

I don't know where this morning went. Mr GF was amazingly wide awake by 8 am.

Yesterday I ordered myself a new skirt, jumper, and cardigan from a company that I've bought from quite a lot over the years. I last bought a couple of summer dresses from them last year. The items that I ordered yesterday arrived this lunchtime, and I'm sending them back for an exchange as I have obviously dropped a whole dress size. I am not yet approaching "jeans weight", (even the larger size of the two sizes I've got in my wardrobe), but I'm glad that I didn't donate them all to the charity shop as there is hope that one day they might fit me again.

Congratulations on braving the weather, Nicos.🚴‍♀️🏅

          • afternoon all,i agree about the weather Mothawk we are lucky, well done Nicos,GF i usually hang on to things just in case,if i really like them,am also thinking what i can make out of other clothes as well,in the past i have altered tops that were long by cuttting up the sides, put a bust dart in the front shorten the back, then form a new bottom hem,i even turned a badly fitting jumper dress into a top,it is now a favourit wear,i purchased some very wide bottomed velvet trousers a couple off years ago, they cost 1.50,of the market brand new,i cut out the crotch, then rejoined the other seams to form a skirt, did not even have to toutch the waist band,my bother is,my head gets more ideas than my old brain can handle, have a good evening all

            • Evening, poured all day today!
I’ve tried to buy clothes recently GF with no luck at all. Where does everyone shop nowadays? Things are either too young for me or too frumpy looking or am I just being fussy?
Hope you all have a lovely evening. Oh and well done Nicos on the bike ride!!

              • Morning all.

The warmer weather because of all the rain has fooled the birds and trees into thinking spring is here. It's bright blue today (more drizzle tomorrow, fear not) and blowing a freezing cold, howling wind. And we'll be back into the minuses at night in a few days.

The wind reminds me I never commented on your shop-bought windsock, Bren. Are you privately hoping it doesn't survive so you can have another Mr Pots special? I'm sure I would if I were you. There's a different kind of attachment, not just to home-grown fruit, veg and flowers, but to homemade things.

Lots of work to be getting on with before a brief outing to the village for supplies. Better get a move on. As I've sadly discovered, work doesn't do itself.

                Have a great day, everyone.

                • Morning

Grory hop today it seems a short list, I'd better check the cupboards I must have missed something.

You're right there Snoop I did get rather attached to little windsock especially when it got rather ragged looking, would it get through another storm or not, the new windsocks just a windsock.

                  Enjoy your day

                  • Mornin n’alln’all

Well, it poured down during the night…bouncing off the bedroom window, but it’s stopped and the wind has dropped a tad and the sun is desperately trying to show itself.

We were thinking of trying out the other major swimming baths today - it’s indoor area is a bit oppressive but it has a new heated outdoor pool ..but the wind is bitter…so, decision made….longer cycle ride today and swimming indoors again tomorrow if all goes to plan.

This morning our sit on mower was collected for a service and should be delivered back within the fortnight. The lawns are sopping wet so no chance of them needing mowing anyway within that time.
What I can’t believe is how the moss has taken off again over the winter so glad we have the weed burner for the gravel driveway and the electric moss rake…good investments for sure.

I’m in awe of those of you who can turn your hand to altering clothes- it must be so satisfying!
I always pop into Tkmaxx when we are over…sometimes nip into M&S for underwear and Next online before nipping in. I wear my clothes to death so if something really grabs me then I’ll buy it ( thankfully it doesn’t happen that often seeing as I try to only buy natural fibres these days!) I think I’d struggle to go anywhere ‘posh’ these days…certainly no very smart footwear I could stand up in let alone walk in
This very much suits my lifestyle these days.

Bren- do you have a piccie of your old windsock?…I’m sure you shared on a long time ago as I have an image in my head.
I do really fancy having one but not something bright orange. I did spot some fun ones like a flying pig and sheep which I thought might also help dissuade birds to keep away from our potagers.

I best get my wiggle on too…enjoy your day peeps…remember to share those lovely smiles of yours x

Most of my clothes are casual these days - bought on line from M&S. The wedding outfit was Hobbs.
                      Have a good day

                            • Good morning.

I've just been outside to collect my and my nearest neighbour's rubbish bins. The binmen had left them halfway down the cul de sac. It feels really cold outdoors. Of course it might have helped matters if I'd worn a fleece and socks and maybe boots and a coat but it didn't seem worth it for such a quick trip. It felt really warm when I came back indoors.

I've just glanced at what is laughably known as a weather forecast. Possible (83%) chance of snow for tonight and tomorrow. Mmmm🤔

I've got another grory hop due between 11am and noon and the postie is also due to collect a parcel (clothes that are too large, that I'm going to exchange).

Nicos, I used to like going to the swimming baths as a child but these days I can't stand even the smell of the chlorine. The only times I've swum or, even better, snorkelled as an adult have been in lakes or the sea.

The postie has now collected my return parcel.

It is rare that I buy new clothes these days. Normally I just look a scruff and wear the same few old, baggy items which actually belong to Mr GF ...... first up, best dressed, but in reverse.

As for smart shoes, I don't possess any. Sandals and boots only ....and no high heels any more. Can this really bring the same woman who used to prance around in the highest stilleto heels, and the shortest mini skirts Have I turned into my grandma?

I don't particularly like altering clothes but I used to make quite a lot of my own dresses in my 20s and was usually very happy with the results. At school my sewing skills were on a par with my cooking/baking skills. I was hopeless, and had very little/no interest in becoming "domesticated"

                              • I do most of my shopping for clothes in my mates gun shop, Moleskin trouser for cold days, Fjallraven gear for hill walking/fishing, cargo pants for warmer days, rugby shirt usually from the clubs on line shop and the occasional trip to the House of Bruar if I'm feeling flush. I do buy decent shoes, I have a pair of Barkers hand made brown brogues and a decent pair of water proof walking boots
Sleet today and 3 degrees quite windy and definitely not gardening weather yet.
