Flo we had our landline removed a couple of years ago, the only calls in the previous year had been an oven cleaning sales person and the usual one to say we have a computer virus.
Fingers crossed for your GG and her New York trip xx

    Nice looking butter MH.

    • Good evening all. I thought I posted this morning but apparently not.
We have been out for lunch with old friends and had a good catch up.
      Hope Hibou is doing well.
      Have a good evening all.

Unfortunately I can only get UHT cream here and it's only around 36% fat content. So nothing like as good as proper double cream. I might give it a go, though, see if it works. Thanks for the inspiration (again), MH.
I don't think that would work, Snoop, the heat treatment must affect the fat, surely?

I had one today - "Hi, I'm David, your local..." I'd already switched off by then because I recognised his area code, so I sweetly said "I really don't think Teeside is local to Leicestershire", at which point he ended the call so politely I think "he" may actually have been "it". It gets harder to spot AI all the time.

I had a Google for info as I presumed the same. But some people have success with UHT cream. I think the lack of fat is more of an issue than changes to the fat. Anyway, I still might give it a go just to see what the result is. I can always use the buttermilk in baking and at least satisfy my curiosity.

            • Go for it, Snoop, it will be interesting to hear the result. And as you say, nothing is wasted.

              • Morning all.

Still 2 hours till sunrise but from what I can see there's no rain and no frost, and I can't hear the wind either. So an average day weather-wise.

No plans for today except present wrapping when the delayed parcel arrives via RM.

I’m sure I saw a video a few years ago mentioning how to make butter at home in France , but can’t recall what type of cream to use…creme fraiche maybe? Can you get hold of that Snoop? I’ve had a look but can’t seem to find the video now.

Off out for a grory hop soon- just a few bits and bobs towards Xmas. I’ve not actually bought any pressies yet! , but I have a few ideas

Have a great day everyone …2 weeks to go!

                  • Morning all.

I can buy a product labelled creme fraiche made by the French company Président, but I think it's also UHT. I'll have a proper check next time I'm in the shop that sells it.

Another cold and frosty morning. Have to go out today, but I'll wait till the car thaws. Other than the outing, the usuals on the cards. M coming for lunch again, but I've got leftovers, so that'll be easy.

                    Have a great day, everyone.

A dry day here so the laundry will soon be out on the line, after that the usual Grory hop.

                      enjoy your day

                      • Good Morning All Dry here for now. Grory Hop on the way. Lights also on the way so I can dress the tree. I'll be interested to see your results Snoop. I only use Elmlea double cream - it is great as a substitute and has a very long date on it. Have a good day

                        • Good morning all dull but dry,
As We are free today we decided to start putting up the Christmas decorations.
It is usually a two day affair so it should be done and dusted by the weekend.

                          • Good morning.... just.

I did start posting (a lot) earlier, but .....it was just basically an insomniacs rant, so I deleted it.

The sun is actually shining today. It is, supposedly, 10°C at the moment but feels much colder.

I've just taken delivery of my Sainsbury's order. I must have been feeling a bit down when I last edited it. I'm basing this idea on the amount of chocolate that I ordered

One of my sisters is calling round this afternoon. We're having a book swap.

I hope Hibou is still rallying, Nicos.

                            Back later. Look after yourselves.

                            • Good evening, just thought I had better post to let you know OH is slowly improving, unfortunately its myself who is up two or three times through the night though I think this is due to the amount of water I am drinking with the antibiotic tablets, OH thinks I should stay on them for a while, I have to take them four times a day one hour before meals or two hours after meals, so to work them in I get up about seven and take my first tablet then as I have to wait an hour I have kept myself busy, first by cleaning the kitchen, then polishing the furniture, washing down the doors, both sides, fortunately while doing the doors to the outside, though wet not freezing, I have heard mention of cleaning out drawers and cupboards but I think I will stop the antibiotics first I see the nurse tomorrow but dont think there's any improvement, though my toe is swollen and red its not too sore and more importantly not spreading, though I think I wil to keep off my feet for a time which will be a problem just now, however will know tomorrow. I have also ordered an adjustable bed, OH kept saying we would see what they are like, but there is no way she would manage to visit any shops especially when its so busy just now, so have ordered one on line, I contacted one manufacturer, thinking I would get a price list, I got a phone all to say I could have a rep. come to the house, I told the girl I just wanted a price list, and was told the rep. wouldn't charge commission for the visit, so told them no thanks, I received two further phone calls so then blocked their number, why do soe companies not take no for an answer, I know if OH says no to me and I ask again for some money or if can I go out or anything else its like a red rag to a bull, and now when I think on it, no wonder I spend so much time in the garden why cant women be easy going and understanding like us men
I might be missing again for a time, just to give you all time to cool down after that, so I wish you all a good night and hope you find lots to make you smile
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                              • Evening all.

One of my sisters called round this afternoon. It was lovely to see her and her dog. He's a rescue who is normally totally hyperactive and barks non stop but he curled up and went to sleep on one of my muddle mats that I use as bedside rugs. My sister couldn't believe it. We had a book swap. Until a few years ago I rarely had a book far from my hand. Always one in the car and one at the side of my bed. After I'd been ill a few years ago I just lost my love of reading. I'm going to try and get it back.

Rary, I know what you mean about pushy salesmen. The one time, a lot of years ago, that Mr GF invited one to visit us, we could not get rid of him. He eventually, after wasting lots of our time, told us the obscene price of his product. I laughed out loud. A couple of weeks later I went to a car boot sale at Doncaster racecourse. The item that the salesman wanted about £1200 for I bought secondhand, in excellent condition for £20 We've still got it .... somewhere. I've just realised that it must have been a long, long time ago as the salesman was wanting Mr GF to write a cheque. I don't think he's written any this century

I was very pleased with the company that I bought Mr GF's riser/recliner from. A local family firm, very helpful on the phone, competitively priced, and very fast delivery. They are based near where my sister lives but she had never heard of them.

Well, it's now well gone the witching hour. I 'm still wide awake. I think I'll try one of my new books next.
