  • Morning

More rain here today, and sandbags have been handed out to the houses just down the lane from us that were under 3 to 5 feet of water during Storm Babet. Hopefully there won't be a recurrence we have friends that only moved back in this summer.

I hope you have a better day today GF xx

      • Morning all.

Blue skies, somewhat surprisingly. We're ignoring the storm warnings forlater and celebrating the ceremonious switching-on of the new fridge now that it's settled down for 36 hours or so and there will be plenty of sun, at least for a while, to get it down to temperature. Fingers crossed Jack doesn't work out how to get in. The cat Missie can work door handles, but I think the fridge will be beyond her unless she and Jack start to work in cahoots.

Not much other news. More errands to do in the village, some domestics and then some paid work (with any luck). Oh and friends down the valley are dropping in to see the pellet heater (we're a bit starved of cultural attractions round here, as you can tell!) and maybe help to install the chimney (which isn't a very big job except Mr Snoop can't manage it).

I've just looked out the window - the clouds are blowing in. So that might be it for the fridge till tomorrow. Never mind.

        Have a great day everyone.

        • Mornin n’alln’all

Oh gosh Bren - fingers crossed for them .

We have a dull damp start to the day and having opened the blinds this morning, noticed the Velux is covered in Saharan sand. I’ve not been outside for a few days but I imagine the car must be covered in it too. It was 14 c yesterday evening

When are the heavy rains due Bren?

Not quite sure what today holds ..but whatever it brings, I’ll make the most of it!

Enjoy your day peeps… hopefully not too soggy xx

          • Good morning.

An awful night's sleep. At 4am we were drinking tea and coffee and watching episodes of "Elementary", which I've never seen before and takes a minimal amount of concentration. It was actually quite nice .... particularly when a bag of chocolate orange segments joined us

I've turned the heating up and made coffee and it is STILL raining The amount of rain that we are getting it's hard to believe we still have a hosepipe ban. I think Yorkshire Water should be recruiting ark builders . Bren, it sounds as if you're getting lots more rain than us. I hope nobody needs the sandbags and they're just a precaution.
I hope you get the ceremonial switch on of the fridge, Snoop. At least at this time of year, the temperature difference isn't too big. Good luck with the chimney for the pellet heater, too.

Try and have a good day, everyone.

            • Good morning all, believe it or not it's still raining, I never saw so much rain fall in one day. The breeze got under the felt on the shed roof and has lifted some of it.
GF, sorry to your going through s tough time, hopefully things will improve.

Bren, hope thesand bags won't be needed and it's just a precaution.

Snoop, I can just imagine Jack opening the fridge, you'll be needing a child lock.

I am out shortly to help my daughter in law lay out the stalls for tomorrows fate, just as well its indoors.
              Have a good day all.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.

Sorry to hear about your troubles GF, big hugs.
                Hope you're soon sorted Snoop.
Still raining here too Bren. I've not been able to look at any flooding in Sheffield. I hope your friends escape it.

                • Well, the fridge is brilliant. Chuntering away to itself. The top shelf is so high that Mr Snoop can't reach it now he can't raise his arms very high. Perfect for hiding goodies or for proving bread dough overnight.

And the chimney is currently being fitted... So far so good.

Hope the rain is holding off, Bren.

                  • Evening

It’s still raining but it’s supposed to be a dry day tomorrow. It’s looking like the sandbags won’t be needed Other areas aren’t so lucky though flooding and closed roads.

Went today to Christmas fair at a local church came home with cakes and a jigsaw puzzle.

Snoop you new fridge sounds perfect, when will the pellet stove be in operation, they do look fascinating.

                    enjoy your evening

                    • Good evening, cold but dry, today, daughter and SiL away for the weekend so asked me if I would wash and dry the work clothes for the boys as her drier has broken down, and of with no guarantee it would stay dry for hanging out, so collected the boy's work clothes last night then granddaughter dropped in on the way home from work to drop off some of her clothes for washing, she wasnt home till the back of nine then out again this morning, so washed all the clothes this morning and got them out, so now expecting a nice present fro daughter when she comes home, had to go for petrol after getting the washing out, there's no petrol garage in town, so headed over to the coast to one of the supermarkets v which happened to be very close to the shore and as I happened to have a couple of large bags in the boot I managed to collect some seaweed
Snoop I have a dish washer but she's not feeling at her best at the moment, thats why I am doing the dishes hopefully normal service will resume soon,
Now going to take Daisy for a short walk, as she is now older she doesn't do well with long walks, which at the moment suites me fine, so enjoy your evening and please pass on your smiles

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • Mornin n’alln’all

Woken by a couple of tawny owls hooting away outside my window!
Anyone fancy a brew?….I know it’s early, and it’s a Sunday..but you can go back to sleep again afterwards!

Later on , we need to find the fleece for the geraniums. I have quite a few in window boxes ( nothing like as lovely as last years). Might be nice to put them together on the patio for ease of fleecing, but at the same time still enjoy the flowers for a while longer.
Tonight there is a major frost forecast, so the decision has to be today!

How has everyone fared with the rains?…I’ve seen some dreadful pictures of flooding on the internet

Glad you got more seaweed Rary…Makes the trip worthwhile doesn’t it?

Snoop- your fridge sounds spot on! I’m sure you’ll be making the most of it, even if it’s a bit bigger than expected.

Actually, it is Sunday isn’t it?…I think I’ll see if I can grab another hour or so of sleep…

                        Enjoy your day peeps!
Not seen the smiles fly over yet…maybe they are investigating Snoops fridge for goodies?

                        • Morning all.

Nice sunny day today. But fingers crossed the weather report is wrong. Snow in a few days at 200 m apparently, we're at 500 m. Looks like we'll be very glad of the pellet heater, though it uses up a lot more electricity than we were told. Looks like we might now have to change our solar set-up. Not so much the panels, which are now really cheap, but the batteries, which are not... The other drawback, Bren, is it's surprisingly noisy. It's like having a snoring person in the room. We were thinking of putting one in the bedroom, but no chance.

Long list of jobs to do, but it's so long it's laughable. I'll just have to start at the beginning and hope for the best. Meanwhile, the helpers are outside working away building a tank for rainwater and Mr Snoop is supervising. Jack is desperate to go out and bother everyone, but as he's complaining about not being allowed out, he's just bothering me.

                          Have a great day, everyone.

Its looking like being a dry day here so the laundry will be going out. Poor Jack he just wants to go out and help.

                              • Good morning all, it's dull but dry at 10 degs.
Snoop, that's a disappointment with the noise from your heater.
Poor Jack, pushing the boundaries, he just wants to see whats going on,

Nicos, some of my geraniums are still outdoors inwindow boxes and too heavy form all the rain to put in the greenhouse so I am going to cover them with heavy duty fleece and hope for the best.

Off to the church shortly and then I will go and help out at the indoor fair.
                                Have a good day all,
