  • I was never a lover of those frames GF, remember when we went on holiday to Scarborough once, 4 of us in the one room the kids in bunk beds and our double bed had the metal springs every time one of us moved the bed squeaked something terrible and disturbed the children, I put up with it from the Saturday till Thursday, then decided to do something about it, so collected a couple of spanners and a screwdriver from the car, up to the room, lifted the mattress back tightened ONE SCREW, and no more squeaking, I could have kicked my self for not thinking of it earlier, the poor children getting their sleep disturbed

The board is now under the mattress not sure it will make any difference but I have always said you should listen to your elders

        • Rary- yes, a gas burner but it has two heads. Also it uses a large gas bottle which needs trundling around in a wheelbarrow.

It’s similar to one our neighbour has and his works pretty well if he uses it regularly.
I don’t like the idea of using gas but hand weeding gravel won’t be sustainable in years to come . And OH seems (like most little boys )
seems to enjoy playing with fire
We have to be very careful with what we add to our surface water as it drains into the local stream which is collected for drinking water and has otters and fresh water pearl mussels

When we bought this house, the previous owners had to leave their metal bed frame as the nuts had rusted solid. It didn’t have springs, just a sheet of what looked like chainmail hooked solidly onto the frame…sagging badly in the middle. No mattress. How they coped with that couldn’t have been much different from the ropes they used ( of “ sleep tight” fame)

          • Mornin n’alln’all
Awoke to the first chirping birds of the day..lovely.

We’ve had quite a lot of activity recently with a couple of Tawny owls hooting away- not sure if they are disputing territory at this time of the year?
No mushrooming today I’m a afraid…had to commit to something else instead which is disappointing- but there will be plenty of other opportunities.
So more pottering in the garden for me today! Can’t complain

Have a great day everyone - don’t do anything I wouldn’t..and keep sharing those smiles….we never know who is need of seeing them.

            • Morning all.

A chilly start to the day, but like people who live in barns, though not actually born in one, we've got all the doors wide open! Lots of shifting and tidying to do, as we've got visitors arriving for the weekend. We are blessed with our friends, as well as our neighbours, as they're coming a long way to help with a couple of jobs.

Got a lot to get through, so I'd better shake a leg. First job, walk Jack. He has already shooed the smiles on their way and is raring to go.

              Have a great day, everyone.

Hope you have a productive day- and the rain holds off x

Hair cut this morning not to sure after that.
One of our neighbours tenants left a fair bit of furniture behind amongst it I spotted a metal bed frame, the rail sides made perfect poles for my raspberry frame.

                  Enjoy your day.

                        • Good morning all.

It's a miserable sort of morning here but supposedly only a 10% chance of rain. I'm debating whether to put a big fleece throw, that Mr GF managed to decorate with tomato and aubergine soup, into the wash. How he did it is a mystery as the fleece wasn't that near to him when he was eating. I have only just spotted it, a day and a half later. I suppose one of the good things about fleece is that it usually dries quickly.

Nicos, I had to google "Sleep tight." I'm not a lot wiser, but it sounds like a very weird film, presuming that the film is what you are referring to. Aren't we lucky to live in a world with modern bedframes and mattresses? I can't stand memory foam however. My favourite place to sleep is aboard a boat/ship, particularly if I can hear the sea lapping gently against the hull.

What is it with men (little boys) liking to play with fire? It does seem to attract them. I banned Mr GF a long time ago after he ended up in A & E after putting a bag of rubbish, that he hadn't looked into first, on a fire. There was an "empty" little gas canister among the rubbish .... enough said. With he amount of stitches that he's had over the years he ought to look like Frankenstein's monster. For some unknown reason he asked me the other day if we had matches or a lighter in the house. I could honestly say no. I didn't mention my mini kitchen blow torch.

Well time to do something productive.

As for those bed rails, they used to be made of really strong pine from northern Spain. The rails are so strong Mr Snoop joined them into H beams for floor and roof beams. They've worked a treat.

                            • Good afternoon, had a light rain this morning then the sun out for a time but now dull with more rain on the way, after having a sleep with the board under the mattress there was no difference whatsoever with the firmness of the bed, Snoops question of, anY better,, (isn't it annoying when you read back and realise there's a wrong and an extra letter added to your words) the the pain in OH back is beginning to ease a bit but very slowly, GF I placed a thin memory foam mattress on top of our bed mattress and while doing that, daughter came in so I asked her to give some assistance she came through to the bedroom looked at the topper then said oh no I can't touch memory foam and about turned, once finished I told her mum that it was a bit of a struggle to get it on (which it wasn't) but you have to make a meal of things whe you get the opportunity as for favourite place to sleep I really love sleeping in a tent with rain hitting the canvas, such a nice sound, now need to go and do some cleaning and dusting, for some reason I dont like dusting, as I have said before when OH was out after telling me to dustI just moved som ornaments and othe objects about, that let OH think I had moved them while dusting, she was happy I was happy so win, win, have a pleasant day and pass on your smiles
