  • Morning all.

Bright and blue here. Jack out chasing the cats before it gets too hot to move. I need to find more ways to wear him out it would seem.

GF, is it possible your brother-in-law has a UTI? Hope the grory hop and car are good.

I have fond memories of Hawkshead, Rary. Afternoon tea there once when I was maybe eight or nine. I remember it because we rarely did something like that and it was a lovely tea room, really stuck in my memory. Sounds like Hawkshead has changed in the many years since then.

Right, got the usual mucho, mucho to do today. Better get on with it.

    Have a great day, everyone.

There's been a real carry on in the lakes re parking and still ongoing . Keep talking about park and rides but folk end up parking anywhere and it causes a nightmare.
        I like Hawkhead too.
Sun and warmth coming back today after the morning rain Rary.
Went to mum's yesterday to receive a call but they rang early so I set to in the garden again, more pruning and more to do. I keep asking what she wants done but she doesn't say, when i do stuff she says I've done enough, when its left she complains about it so I've made a list and going to please myself. Starting with getting an extra bin collected. We are allowed 1 but have to pay for a second one now.
Apparently I'm definitely my dad's daughter
Pottering here today. Sun due to appear at some stage, currently raining.

        • Mornin n’alln’all
Nice and sunny here too !
Looks like we are in for a few sunny days, so that’s perfect.

The first BnB I ever stayed in with OH was in Hawkshead. It was Spring and the smell of woodsmoke was everywhere.
We woke up the next morning to glorious bright sunshine- and opening the curtains we were surprised to see 3” of snow with sunlight sparking off the surface.Magical

I guess they must have so many visitors that,as it’s such a tiny village, that maybe putting up the parking fees like that helps reduce the footfall to a manageable level?

Anyway…must sort out breakfast- croissants anyone?

Have a great day peeps and share those smiles!

              • Good morning all it's bright and sunny.
Grory hop this morning and then a trip into town for some bits we need.
Domestics first and the greenhouse plants are all fed and watered.
                Have a good day all,

                  • I've got my car back. It's passed the MOT. The lightbulb has been replaced. It was only a daytime running light. When did they become a thing? At least now I won't get a message on the screen every time I start the car now.

                    • Good afternoon, raining again this morning and with some quite heavy showers, was going to go to Keswick, but as we are not really looking for anything in particular we decided we would just have a lazy day.
Just reading some of the comments, re. Hawkshead, my first visit to there was when I was a scout leader and helping some of the boys with their D. O. E award, it cost both a fellow scout leader and my self a small fortune to feed the boys, last question when setting out , have you enough with you to eat? And yes they said they had , there first question when they came back , Is there anything for eating we are starving, the boys used the toilet facilities to freshen up then a walk through the village and yes its a nice village, but there are now less shops in it, evidently it will have changed a lot since Snoop was there and even Nicos, it's still a small village and yes I can understand the need to pay for parking but I do think they are over charging, when I see the prices for parking in some places I think to my self, Dick Turpin is still alive and still at it. We have been coming to the Lake District at least once a year for 30 years and this must be the quietest we have seen it for about twenty years especially in August. We will be heading back home tomorrow, and though we havent done much this week due to the weather I still feel it has been the most relaxing break I have had for quite a while, enjoy be remainder of the day and find something to smile about

The only begonia I see mentioned is Crimson Gem..
                        Hope this might be helpful.

                          • Well, I should be really tired as I stayed awake after the mechanic called at 6.30am this morning. However sleep is eluding me.

We had a power cut this afternoon. I was more organised this time than last time, when I realised I couldn't light any of the rings or ovens on the gas cooker as I didn't have a lighter or matches and the spark is generated by mains electricity. I went to the pound shop and bought a couple of long handled lighters that I think are intended for barbecues. I have just realised however that I could have probably used my little kitchen blowtorch that I use for melting sugar on top of creme brulee. I'd completely forgotten about that.

I think I'll try to go to sleep ...... again. The body is ready, but I just need to tell my brain to take a break.

Yes please to the brew CG!…much appreciated x

It seems we have cloud. Warm but cloud…so …perfect for being outdoors tbh. Yesterday was just a tad too hot for me out in the full sun.

I really need to be collecting fallen plums and mirabelles today. I think I may be in for a bit of a shock!

Talking of shocks… we have a dog staying with us at the moment…and you should have seen Hibou’s face when it was here still at bedtime. Very much not impressed. Poor lass….I did explain it’s here for a few more days but I think she’s double checking incase her wishful thinking turns into fruition

I’m really fancying making a mirabelle clafuti today- but it seems a bit much to heat up a 90cm wide oven just for that.
Maybe I should make two and freeze one ?
We had a lovely message yesterday from the previous gite guest who willingly took several kilos of plums. They sent a photo of a large plum tart and several pots of jam with our name on them! What a lovely thing to do…they said it will help continue their memories of their stay with us! I was chuffed they’d taken the darned things!…looks like that act of sharing has created rather a lot of smiles. No wonder they were looking rather hyperactive as they flew over this morning…unless they’ve been up to something at home base Snoop?

Enjoy your day peeps..whatever you get up to.
