Sorry, I should have been clearer. We're just going to meet the dog and be vetted to see if we're suitable. if all goes to plan, we'll pick him up a bit later on.

He has a name already, Jack, which we'll stick with, I imagine. Easier for him and isn't like the cat names, so no confusion there.

Going to be strange having a puppy in the house again. We'll have to move lots of things that he might find tempting to chew...

Edited: That reminds me. We haven't had news of Gus for a while, nick the grief. How are you all getting on?

That hospital is totally useless!!!!! Well I don't know if the rest of it is, but definitely that ward. I fully intend complaining..... and it is something I usually seem to be quite good at. It is not the staff on the ward, it is the moribund system and the non-existant doctors who just seem to care about ticking boxes rather than actually treating patients. I am ready to go to war with them now. I think I would rather die than spend time in there as a patient.

Rant over.... for now.

Good luck, GF. It makes my blood boil when I think about what my dad went through the last time he was in hospital. Not the doctors or nurses' fault but the admin side. The lack of planning and foresight. Nobody in my family wanted to complain as it wouldn't have made any difference. But me, I'm still angry. So you rant away, and on my behalf too.

I hope Mr GF and BiL are OK.

Snoop, I've often not complained about things in the past as when I'd got past the initial rage it didn't seem worth it. This time however, the sheer uselessness and slowness of the system and box ticking is beyond belief. I thought care was supposed to be 24/7. I wonder if the Daily Wail would be interested?? Probably not...... The woman with a husband in the opposite bed is of the same mind. I must get her name and address tomorrow.

I had got myself so upset and wound up that I have just rung his ward to check that he is okay as he was really upset when I left.

He is evidently sleeping now. I wish that I could......

I have just learned a new phrase. "Non maleficence" is actually used in the english language. It might just sneak into the odd conversation tomorrow. It's always better to not let people know your background and how you might have come across such a phrase. It can occasionally unnerve them.

Morning all.

The big lightbulb in the sky is looking very bright. Going to hit the top 30s today. What July and August are going to be like doesn't bear thinking about.

Right, now the dog news. We met Jack yesterday. Lovely dog. Very calm despite noisy and unnerving surroundings, with an unknown dog barking aggressively, and extremely affectionate. So we've said yes. Despite the fact that he will clearly not be 20 kg. He's twice the size of his sister (who we also met) and has whopper paws. I know that isn't a totally reliable clue, but everyone's eyes rolled when I asked 'so is he really going to be 20 kg when fully grown?" Bringing him home on Thursday.

So in addition to all the work I've got on my plate, we've also got to puppy-proof the house. Better get a move on.

He's of the mongrel breed, Flo (colourfully and colloquially known as mil leches - a thousand milks - in Spanish). And just as well, as I suggested to the pound that he and his brother look a bit rottweiler-like and they insisted no. Not in their interest for us to send him back on the grounds he wasn't what we ordered (so to speak), so I'll take them at their word. He has a much longer snout than a rotty already and looks very like a Bernese mountain dog, but with less white.

Maybe my threats of complaints are working. I've had phone call from the discharge team this morning. They are supposedly meeting me at 11.30 on the ward.

Good morning all,boy was it hot last night,more of the same today,GF it is very frustrating,is it not enough for them that just having an ill loved one is enough to cope with,the system is in a mess,Snoop wow good luck,should you open a new thread,THE ANTICS OFF JACK,am late up today,going to pic up my new glasses shortly,want to go in the garden,but it might be to hot,need to order a skip,i have made a decision about the top patio,have put a message out on check a trade,still awaiting,i want my garden sorted out,see what the cost will be,have a good day all,

Bit of a late start, then a bit of a rush this morning sorting out our friend who is going home today- apparently needing to take clean clothes home as they are going camping almost as soon as he’s back!
All sorted…phew

Really hope things are sorted for you GF. I suppose as a last resort ( if everything else is OK)he could discharge himself?
maybe it’s something to do with trying to sort out home visits/ back up checks to be in place before he goes which is causing the delays?
Whatever it is….as everyone says, we are all right behind you lass xx
And,of course, on top of this…what’s the latest with your BIL? My, you’ve got your hands full at the moment xx
