    • Good evening.

I've just got in from hospital visiting. When I got to the hospital at about lunchtime Mr GF was at reception on the ward ranting. He was standing up without his stick or a zimmer frame and being very disruptive. Considering that he couldn't stand or walk even with a zimmer frame two days ago, a big improvement. He had been moved to a new ward in the night. I think the staff who were trying to calm him down were most surprised when as I came through the doors, I shouted at him to behave and come back to bed and he hugged me and did as he was told. I wondered who was in the next bed as the curtains were closed. This afternoon the occupant threw a complete fit and I saw rather more of him than I wanted. He was trying to run around the ward naked, while defecating. Mr GF, of course, wanted to protect me and I had to hold him back. The floor was like a skating rink, awash with overturned drinks and bodily fluids .... and the smell!!!! It took several staff a long time to subdue him and give him an injection of, I presume, a sedative. And then there was the clean up. The staff in there work really, really hard for their money. Mr GF fell asleep eventually as I left, after visiting ended. I don't think the staff really wanted me to leave while he was still awake as they made me a cup of coffee a couple of minutes beforehand.

He only really had one thing to say all day. "I want to go home". He was trying desperately to think of ways to escape. He reminded me of John Cleese in the episode of Fawlty Towers where Basil gets hit on the head by a mooses head and is laid in bed in the hospital.

His reasoning skills are definitely coming back though as by tonight he'd decided that if he couldn't come home I ought to sneak into bed with him and no-one would notice.

Sorry to hear your sad news, Bramble.

Sorry to hear about your operation, Rary.

I think a drink is in order now.

        • Snoop Puss, the man actually had a "bed guard" behind the curtain with him but made his escape while sitting on a commode. If it wasn't so sad to see someone so ill and out of control it would have been worthy of a scene in a farce. When security turned up there was no way that they were risking getting **** on their uniforms.

              • Morning all.

My goodness, GF, what a stressful day for you! Hope Mr GF and BiL too are soon well enough to come home again.

LD, have you got your voice back enough so you can sing in church? Singing is the best part of the service IMO.

I've been out for a very early walk while it was still gloriously cool, and came home with this haul -

two and a half pounds of wild cherries. While I was picking them an early dog walker wanted to know if they were "real" cherries (???), and a runner who looked to be in his thirties actually asked me what I was picking. Bet he doesn't recognise blackberries either...

A tribe of magpies scolded me from the tree tops - they love cherries, so I'm betting in a day or two there will be none left.

                • Mornin n’alln’all
We have a lovely sunny start to the day. What a difference two days make!!!

Yikes GF…what an experience. Hats off though to the nursing staff who handled all that. Hope things are easier for you today and your OH is home soon x

My OH came home with half a freezer box full of mackerel yesterday. They gutted them yesterday and hopefully will fillet and freeze most of them today. ( I’m very not into gutting anything tbh) No time to do much with them ( seems to be the story of our lives at the moment) but will hold a few back to BBQ tomorrow.

We had a massive delivery of wood yesterday whilst they were out. The guy got the day wrong - should have been tomorrow- so that lot needs cutting, splitting and stacking so we can access the rear garden with the trailer. Have to say though…it looks nice wood!

So, the jobs list is being jiggled to get that lot cleared . We have the garden fence/ barrier down at the moment…intending to put up replacement horizontal bars today. I guess that will be a tomorrow job now. At least I can still get on with the shredding!

Hope everyone has a good day..need to make the most of things, and remember to be kind to ourselves too .
The smiles went whizzing by earlier…so clearly heading somewhere with good intent!

                      • Morning all.

Hope you and Mr GF and BiL have a better day of it today, GF. I know it sounded funny, but your story had me in tears. Dreadful situations all round.

Nice haul of cherries, MH. I must admit I'd be nervous of picking them. My parents had an ornamental cherry tree and were always reminding us not to eat the fruit. I'd have no idea if cherries I saw in the wild were edible or not.

And a nice haul of fish and wood, Nicos. Food and fuel. Two of the basics of life right there.

On the cards for today for me, a monumental amount of work. So I'd better get on with it.

                        Have a great day, everyone.

                        • Snoop, no reason you can't eat the fruit of ornamental cherries, except often they are quite bitter as they've been bred (from regular or wild cherries) for flowers, not fruit. They make good jam if you're prepared to pick out all the stones, they are often too small to use a cherry stoner on. Mine will become jam, if there are enough left. Fresh cherries...mmmmm.... That's me.

                          • Good morning.

I'm hoping today is a better day.

I've had a few hours sleep, but spent most of the night awake, worrying. I think I'll try ringing the ward before I set off. I'll try at around 10am when they should have finished their morning rush. Forewarned is forearmed!

I know an infection can send people a bit weird, or should I say a lot weird, so I'm hoping that if the man in the next bed is still there that he is more stable today. When my sister in law was in hospital, during lockdown, despite no visiting, the doctor sent for me and Mr GF to try and calm her down. She, completely out of character, was ranting, raving and swearing like a trooper. She threw things at Mr GF and couldn't understand why I didn't believe some of her outrageous tales. At one point she dropped her phone in a jug of water so that "they" couldn't spy on her. She refused to eat or drink as she thought everything was poisoned.

It is so nice to hear of people doing normal activities. It sounds as if you are going to be busy today, Nicos.

I think an extra dose of caffeine wouldn't go amiss either. Just to really finally wind me up yesterday when I went to leave the car park to come home, despite having paid the extortionate parking fee at the machine, it said my ticket was invalid when I got to the barrier!

Try and enjoy your day everyone.
