  • Good morning.

The rain has actually stopped. I never stuck my head out of the front door yesterday, it never let up. I imagine that there will be some local floods. I know what you mean about new homes, Bren. Some around here have been built on totally unsuitable land. Sim, I hope you aren't in too big a mess and the cleanup doesn't take too long. I've fortunately never had a flooded house, but once lived aboard a boat that tried to sink (Mr GF's fault) and the clean up was awful.

Weirdly I have had anothe mega-sleep again, 9 hours, with one mini wake up in the middle.

    • Morning all.

Sorry to hear you're flooded, Sim, hope the water goes down quickly.

After 24 hours of rain, the bottom road out of the village is impassable where the brook (usually!) goes under the road. Plenty of fields for the water to spread over though, so nobody gets flooded, even the bungalow with the brook only10ft away at the side of it stays dry as it sits slightly higher than the fields. The mill fields flood but water never reaches the Mill House - back in the day people were aware which areas were unsuitable for building, and knew not to build on water meadows and flood plains, now anything goes, seemingly.

The breadmaker's on doing the hard work for me kneading the dough for bridge rolls. while I finish all the domestics. Just ironing left to do. Hmm, coffee first, I think....

      • Mornin n’alln’all

Yikes Bren - is there a potential for your home to be flooded too?
It’s heartbreaking seeing all the damage of personal property. We’ve all worked hard over the years for our belongings

I hope this is a wake up call for town planners all over the world - I still can’t get my head around giving permission to build on floodplains. They are going to flood….the hint is in the name, Surely electrical pumps can only work if there is somewhere to pump the water to and if there is electricity to work the pumps? I’ll get off my high horse as it’s not my specialised subject, but heck

Having said all that, we’re back to wet and windy again here. I parked the car well away from our mature sycamore tree - just incase

Lots of pottering for me today - I have windfall apples to freeze down and the two picked up baskets of bedding ironing from before our hols is sat there glaring at me still. Pah.

Sounds a delish lunch Snoop - enjoy!

Best crack on…Have to admit that I quite like pottering days

        Keep safe everyone

        • Just nipped out for the newspaper we only have one on Saturday because of the puzzles and TV guide plus I popped in the bakery for a custard tart.

Nicos we're a lot higher than the surrounding area so its unlikely we'd flood. Its stopped raining here hopefully conditions will start to improve.

          • The wind has dropped to around 40mph which is more normal for here, but it is still raining heavily, I saw a lovely house for sale on a hill top for sale near our daughter in Perthshire and thought I'd need a lottery win to buy it. When I checked my emails this morning I had one from the lottery telling me I'd won!!...................................................not sure £4 will buy us a house though, not even a lego one lol.

            • Good afternoon we actually have the sun out just now, fortunately there has been no flooding here, we get a lot of heavy rain in this area and some of the roads flood on a regular basis, but that's more to do with poor drainage, the council has recently spent quite a bit of money on flood defences, for some reason one area got flooded after the council allowed a dyke, which had been put up when I was a boy after sever flooding, to be removed evedently they must have thought the rain wouldn't be as bad nowadays 🙄 OH wants the house cleaned today, something we had done on Wednesday, and I have a list of things that I need to do over the next three or four days, daughter phoned to see if I wanted to come to her house for tea etc. I thanked her but declined as I told her I am quite capable of looking after my self, as OH said I have been doing the cooking and housework for the past year, and with that please excuse me as I might not be on for a period. I hope you all avoid any damage caused by the weather, and Sim I hope your damage is minimal, I wish you well getting your house back in order, remember to pass on your smiles a lot of people may need them
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • Morning all.

Best wishes to Mrs Rary. No climbing ladders for the next few days, rary.

Very cloudy here this morning after a cold night. When I went to bed, I fully expected to see a frost this morning. Maybe the low temp recorded was so brief one didn't have time to form.

Had a lovely day with our Italian friend yesterday. With any luck, the jolliness will power me through the day, as I've got a lot to get through.

                        Have a great day, everyone.

Lovely and sunny here at the moment.
Our lunch out has been postponed as one of our friends is ill Poor thing has been ill on and off for a few weeks now so I hope it all gets sorted soon for her.

So as we unexpectedly have time on our hands today I’ll probably get another chunk of the ironing out of the way, do a spot of cleaning then tootle around the garden. Having said that , the ground is really soppy.
We have no risk of actual flooding, but we do have a source running beneath part of our house and it has previously ingressed from the back garden which is on a slope. We installed a French drain outside a few years ago but it’s never really been put to the test…Things look good so far….
Enjoy your day peeps- last night was, apparently, a meteor shower but I guess most of us had cloudy skies?

                            • Morning all.

Thin grey cloud so far today, making for a much warmer start to the day than yesterday.

Mr Snoop has just gone into the village to collect our post. Me, I'm holding the fort with the dogs and hoping to get through some work while he's out. Only hoping, mind, as one of the dogs is determined to monopolise my attention. And seeing as he keeps barging in under my elbows and can easily rest his head on my keyboard, it's not proving very easy to get anything done.

                              Have a great day, everyone.
