  • What I did today - 2015

This is intended to act as an aide memoir to everyone on the grapevine. I hope it will remind us of tasks that should be carried out at the time of year each posting is written.
It is not intended to be a Blog or a journal but simply an aid to help. I hope everyone will post what they did in their garden or allotment each day.

After the onslaught of pressure from work over the festive n busy season!

It was actually "Ace" to have a day on the plot! Breathing in fresh air, listening to the birds singing, n generally climbing back into myself!

    "loved It"

    The rewards were good too!

    Can't wait for the weekend!

Great crop Deano. Nothing gardening related for me today. De cluttering. Of course dustman day was yesterday..... Got 4 bags for the charity shop and recycled loads of paper. Who knew we had had so many phones, fridges, free view boxes, digi boxes, dishwashers etc? So many manuals now recycled

Nanny! I'm just relieved you made it through the "App being chopped"

I must admit! I was worried on your account!

Cleared a space and laid a base for my polytunnel and sorted out the raspberry canes. Hoping I haven't killed anything...

Ooh interesting... I didn't manage to get up all my spuds yet, I figured they were lost now the ground is frozen, perhaps this isn't the case?

Carried on spreading some compost as mulch over the empty winter beds.

It's helping free up some much needed space in the compost bins.

My potatoes are in bags, which I have moved into the garage. However, if they haven't been eaten by slugs, any potatoes that are undergraound may well be ok, because the frost won't have gone in more than an inch or 2. I have in the past harvested potatoes from outdoors at this time of year in mild intervals so its worth a try.

I managed to edge a bed and a bit, as it is the first day the ground wasn't frozen in the last week (however I did lack enthusiasm as it is still ruddy cold). Made a change from wire wooling plant labels

I have also sown a few leek and onion seeds, but trying to hold off doing to many.

Oh and put another coat of paint on an old fire bucket that I have killed the bottom of, but now I can use it for growing long root veg (part of my can I grow show type veg in 2015)

TY. I thought you might like to know I have already read and bookmarked your thread on growing onions from seed. It was very impressive and interesting.

Its amazing how much info is already on the vine. I have book marked someone elses post/ thread for pot leeks.

I will just have to see how it goes. For better or worse......

Sowed a few saved outdoor tomato seeds and put them on the windowsill in the kitchen. Some years i can get one or two to take for an ealier greenhouse crop. Often they do nowt, but at least its cost me nowt to try.

I had to pull (what was left) of my greenhouse down last night, the wind has totaled it this time. I think I managed to save my garlic plants.....they are quite battered though

Ouch - still, it gives you somewhere to put another, possibly better one

Wandered round the garden looking for something to do but decided it was too windy to do anything very constructive. Pegged the fleece back down as it had blown out of some if its pegs. Picked some Mizuna and Pak Choi for lunch.

Sowed some leeks as an experiment in home made, sifted compost and covered them with vermiculite. I wasn't going to sow leeks until March this year - need to learn how to stick to the plan!

And now the postman has gone and delivered a Marshall's catalogue...
