A few pictures taken whilst we were counting butterflies.
Peacock butterfly
Monarch I think, trying to pretend it's not sat on a fence top
Baby bird (maybe dunnock) having a rest after a very tricky try at flying.
Think this is a goldfinch nest (ps this was not touched and we have now placed buddleia out of bounds as much as possible). PS if it is goldfinch (we're starting a close watch) I'll be super happy as I've been trying to lure them to the garden for some time now.

Nice pics, Jimny! I think the butterfly on the fence might be another peacock, like this one: https://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/phpB...b617793d7d.jpgOriginally posted by Jimny14 View PostA few pictures taken whilst we were counting butterflies.

I think that's Joe Pye Weed. Here's what is probably a holly blue on the same plant:Originally posted by Chrissyteacup View PostThis giant hoverfly on my hemp flowers (not medicinal!!!

Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling
