    I think they are Smooth Newts, but don't want to disturb them if there's a chance they might be egg laying to get a closer look, will try and get some pictures.

                Could be white in the centre with a pinkish outer colour,it looks like pac mans trying to eat it ​​​​​​​

                          PS...I still haven't made my pond, but it is on the list

                                Thanks folks, the blanket weed is a pain, but the critters in there don't seem to mind and the birds have made a bathing beach in one corner, so it is doing it's job.
