Chillies - growing and overwintering 2018

Another trip to Homebase for paint and a ladder and felt sorry for a bedraggled Shakira, with four pods, great shape somewhat like chilliwilly70s'. A trunk then "Y" and more "Y"s upwards. Some sites say it's F1 but hope it isn't, another to try and overwinter.
This may get like my love of tomatoes.

Three chillies I can grow next year - thank you!

I asked for three novice chilli recommendations for next year, and I have had a fair number of suggestions, thanks so much.

I have looked each of the suggestions up, heat, flavour, size etc and it is EXTREMELY hard to stick to three (as you all know!), but I think three is all I'll have room for. In order to have a range of flavour and heat I think I'll go for:
Padron, mild and usable in lots of dishes, as well as as a snack;
Jalape�o, mid heat and good in curries; I'll go for a pretty purple one for interest;
Lemon drop, pretty hot, but I love lemon flavoured food, and it sounds intriguing.

Thanks all very much. This is a great thread and I will follow suggestions on date of sowing etc.

SP, judging by the photos of your crop I'm sure you are right.
At the moment I've got 28 tomato seed packets and ten chilli packs plus the two plants.
I am getting worried!

Spend a few more months in our ( at time a little odd ) company and your obsession will grow and flourish into a real problem

The shaking and sweating have stopped but still have butterflies. When I joined I had 3 tomatopacks and 2 unused chilli packs so being on here has already changed my life. My garden is tiny and in total I now have 87 seed packets and most will never see the ground.
HELP!!!
Funny thing is I can't wait until January to March so I can start sowing, something to look forward to.

I agree with SP -amateur!

I gave up counting how many varieties when I got over 10 packs of tomato seed - all beginning with B. I store them in alphabetical order.

Overwintering dilemma - Carolina Reaper

I may have mentioned earlier that my reaper plant has had a grand total of zero pods on it this year. I told it that it wasn't coming back inside the house unless it hurried up and set some pods - I gave it a minimum number of six. So now it has set lots - at least 20, maybe more - but they have only just set so still tiny weeny little things. It's kept its side of the bargain, and temperatures are dropping, so I need to think about moving it indoors. The problem is, the plant has loved being outside and has grown huge. It's about four foot tall and maybe two foot wide. I'm not sure how tall my windows are but certainly less than four foot, and the sills are only about 8" wide. I can't really trim it back because the little pods are mostly towards the tips of the branches. What on earth can I do with it?

You have 3 options
1, move all your furniture around so reaper can sit on the floor in front of your window.
2, get that conservatory you've always wanted built.
3, move

I really don't know what to suggest. But good on reaper for producing

They take ages to grow and ripen during the Summer,never mind indoors during the Winter. Cut your losses and save your marriage or get a divorce

But I'm still new here and promise I will learn the ways of the world of GFAV eventually. To help I've just thrown all my flower and veg seeds in the air so they are nicely mixed up for random blindfolded sowing. HTH
