King pod is what you hope to get your secondary growth from. Have a bit of a feel around at the bottom of your seeded leek! they are normally covered in a stinky, slimy mess!

When a leek runs to seed it will throw up a seedhead full of seed. In case this doesn't work it will also create bulbils or grass on the seed head. Most of the time, and as a third line of defence to make sure its offspring thrive in the future, it will usually create two big king pods below ground on the basal plate. These will grow and immediately run to seed so that it has three ways to make sure it survives in the future.

I think growing leeks in the same ground year after year may cause desease build up in the soil. Leeks are part of the onion family and White onion rot doesn't affect just onions.

My thought is to lift the Leeks as and when needed, cut off the bottom few inch & replant them somewhere else on the plot.

I've been trying to figure out what the translation should be in English for Лук-Слизун will be.

Лук - (pronounced look) is easy - Onion
Слизун (pronounced Slizun, translated by google as Slizunov) is trickier. Figured out it's root is слизь which is mucus.
                            .
                            .
                            .
                            .
                            .

                            Лук-Слизун
is therefore a Snot Onion . Seems to have lost something in translation

OK, it could translate as Mucilaginous Onion or Juicy Onion but I like my first translation better.
