Tomato growing diary 2016

Yesterday found that the cold had got a couple of the little tomato plants that I had rather rashly left in the greenhouse (-1 it had got down to) but luckily only 3 of 12 were dead, so I've spread the risk and taken 4 plants back inside to the windowsill for a few more weeks. Now at least I can do a test comparing the tough GH raised ones vs the nesh leggy windowsill plants!

Just dug up my Black cherry seed ,opps they are growing..taking so long.:

Pricked out my tomato seedlings over the weekend, my final numbers are:

2 Maskotka (for baskets)
2 Sungold
3 Galina (I'll probably give one away)

I like that my entire tomato contingent this year can be carried in a small gravel tray with one hand! Leaves the other hand free for opening doors on the inevitable trek back and forth to the greenhouse.

I wouldn't trust anyone under the age of 25 with my seedlings!

Hmm, that is true we have had a few mishaps. I keep mine on those long 3foot GH trays. One holds the front the other is in the back. Problems happen when the one in the front suddenly stops running

All of mine are in the GH now - None of this unseemly running in and out stuff!
I've just pricked out 30 seedlings (mostly Tumbler. Balconi yellow, Shirley and Gartenperle).
Then I potted on some Gardener's delight, Sandpoint, Alaskan summat etc
and Planted into their final position on the GH shelf a Tumbling Tom and a Pendulina.

Time to sow some more

Planted a tray of seeds on Friday last week (1st April) and planted my usuals - Moneymaker and Coeur de Pigeon. Plus two other varieties that I found in my seed box!

I think it depends on where your GH is positioned. I've a very open garden and I'm really in a frost pocket. It was less than 5 in there this morning at 7. I went into Bath the other day and walking into town they have those basement gardens. These are really sheltered - they are like mini courtyard gardens surrounded by high walls, some had flourishing geraniums that have been out all year and lots of stuff in flower.i wanted to take some photos but I thought that peeps would think I was peeping Tom

Those basement gardens are amazing, but I wouldn't like to sit out in them in summer, being gawped at from above
