I had no plans as I expected a wet day but got to go to the greenhouse and did some bits and pieces in the garden.
Well pleased with the day and the weather stayed dry and mild.

Quite a constructive afternoon at the lottie today. Tee shirt weather with the temp at 17 degrees. Very surprised i was the only one on site?
Dug up a load of nice clean tatties that I had grown in a muck heap. Muck heap was only 10" deep so just harvewsted spuds with my hands. Don't think I'll tell OH where those nice clean spuds were grown tho!
Cleared a raised bed (8 foot X 2 foot) of tomato plants from greenhouse, turned over the compost and added a trug full of hoss muck and some BFB meal.. Sowed three rows of Sutton dwarf broad beans in it.
Dug up four of my named chrysamths and potted them in to large pots to promote cuttings for next years plants. Made a mental note to check on the varietal names and label accordingly rather than just RED, YElLOW, PINK etc!

Spent a very pleasant hour in the greenhouse. I had 21 onion sets left in modules so I decided to pamper these. I potted them on into bigger pots and I am going to grow these indoors and compare them to the outdoor ones next spring.

    Friday 13th Nov
Very windy, but wrapped up! Dug up the bind weed infested area and tried to clear as much bind weed as possible. Hopefully next year it'll be more manageable. Weeded and cleared as much of the plot as possible in readiness to manure. Tidied up some onions that had been drying out in the poly and packed them away in an onion bag, hung in the shed! Back home for a deserved hot coffee and cake!

Nice to wear a cosy hoody out there today, its a bit breezy. Watered my seedlings, lettuce, spring onions,Brussels sprouts, also watered some onions & rocket in the blow away (have to tighten the poles everyday but it's still standing). Luckily it's just started raining for the few plants outside. Dead headed French marigolds, geranium, petunia & nasturtium (one nasturtium is growing strong, higher than the trellis now, about more 6inches & it will be at the top of the swing,it looks great,I can't believe it). It's in a raised bed,in a cosy spot next to the edge,so the roots are more sheltered than the nasturtium in my pots. I've raised the netting above my electric onion sets the shoots are 5-8 inches,a marigold flower has grown through a hole in the net,I can't move that bit,but it's ok.

While the weather was good late this morning I decided to cut the Dahlias back. Because of the mild weather they were still flowering but I needed to plant my Wallflowers in their place.
I was very lucky to get the job done as the weather broke just as I finished.
I am well pleased with the mornings work as it was getting a bit late to put them in the ground.

Had a very productive afternoon. The temp went up to 18deg. Very windy but warm.
dug up the last of my outdoor tomatoes.
dug and raked over the whole bed, and then, being seduced by the mild afternoon I decided to plant out my onion sets that were meant to stay in the greenhouse until spring.
i started these off in modules in September and they have grown so quickly.
they have been out on the garden bench for the past two weeks so they should be well hardened off.
I hope I wont regret it.

Yesterday I took the netting off my fruit cage after a massive gust of wind pulled one of the frame joints apart. Luckily it isn't damaged but as a windy week is forecast I thought I would rather be safe than sorry. If anyone has tried wrestling with several metres of veggiemesh in a howling gale they will have a fair idea of my morning!

Carrots are now protected by a much smaller mesh frame weighed down by strawberry plants.

I accidentally went into the garden centre, you see it is rude if you are passing and do not pop in.
I then bought 40!! yes 40 sprouted garlic sets (do you call garlic a set?)
Then 10 cauliflower plug plants even though i said i would only try a few more again this year, now that is 20 in the plot, whoops-a-daisy.

Planted out 4 of my brussels sprouts evesham special plants, protected with a half plastic bottle with copper tape around it to protect from slugs,it's also like a wind block although I have put a plastic cloche over the whole lot too. The soil was nice,it's where my runner bean plants were grown & I'd covered the lot with chopped up old bean plants,so very few weeds when I moved it all along. Potted on my winter gem lettuce & had a tidy up of the big blow away, also secured it a bit better because it's so windy out there.

Funny that, I'm on another forum where I always seem to be mentioning a load of 'Fluffy bunnies'
