We should name a pea after Dotty:

                          Maybe a 'mange tout' variety?

I could never remember which were summer, which were winter sowers.

Now it's easy: suntans give you wrinkles, so the summer peas have the wrinkles

There's a simple reason why round in the autumn and wrinkled in the spring. Its to do with fungi!

Fungi and moulds will nestle in the folds of a wrinkle seeded pea and rot it, whereas fungi have nothing to grip onto a round seeded pea.

You can probably get away with the wrinkled seed in the spring because they will germinate quicker and fungi/moukds will not have time to do their damage.

Thats what I've always believed anyway!

Probably the same reason only a few varieties of broad bean are suitable for autumn sowing also?
